Just back from vacation, there is now one less bottle of Lagavulin 16yo and Talisker 18yo in existence. Not to mention a number of truly fine cigars.
And now it’s into rehab to dry out, kick the nicotine habit and work a few pounds off my besotted, bloated but well tanned and relaxed body.

Why, thank you. Let me tell you that I find you to be a gentleman, a scholar and a fine judge of women.

A sampling of whiskies I had at a recent tasting:
SINGLETON OF DUFFTOWN
40% alcohol
ROYAL LOCHNAGAR
1991/2007, Signatory, 58,3% alcohol
ARDMORE QUARTER CASK
peated, 46% alcohol
MORTLACH
1988/2005, Sherry finish, Cadenhead, 58,1% alcohol
LAGAVULIN
1995/2008, Friends of Classic Malt, 48% alcohol
Ardmore do a quarter cask?
Skillful:
The 18 year old Macallan (12, 18, and 25 y/o are still aged in Sherry barrels = true awesome) is one of the smoothest most delicious Scotches in the world. The 12 is good, but you can do better for the price. The 15 is aged in Bourbon Barrels and hence I refuse to try it. Well, that and the fact that nobody has ever offered me any.
Skillful - I had to go out and order a bottle of The Macallan 15 after reading your post (still like my Bourbon at times).
It will be in perhaps tomorrow and I’ll let you know what your missing.
Open now is a bottle of Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban, initially matured in Bourbon casks and finished in a Port cask.
For the occasional Irish whiskey - Bushmills Black Rush

Yeah, they call it the Traditional Cask. It isn’t a true quarter cask since they mature it in ex-bourbons before transferring it to quarters.
Good discussion here:

And another opinion here:

I don’t think any distillery matures their hooch entirely in quarter casks. I know Laphroaig (Kings of the 1/4 Cask) only use it as a finish.

skillful- Picked up The Macallan 15 tonight. A little over my usual budget, but smooooth and not too Bourbony (surely butchering the language here).
A good single malt with triple cask maturation.

The 15 isn’t bad. Have you had the 10 year old cask strength? Probably one of my favorite McCallans in the lower end price range.

Bulleit Kentucky Bourbon all the way!
No - how strong is cask strength for Scotch?
I know the Wild Turkey barrel proof is 130.
Damn you - now I have to go order again.
16 yr. Aberlour was pretty damn good.

I shared a bottle of Van Winkle Special Reserve (12 year, 90.4 proof) with my friends while I was home on leave. Sweet and mellow, with just a hint of hickory. Its texture was amazing. Seemed more like cognac than bourbon. Almost bought some Pappy Van Winkle instead, but didn’t feel like dropping the cash.
It’s hard to justify buying Scottish Single Malts these days when I can get Knob Creek and Woodford Reserve for about 20 bucks a bottle.

I tend to alternate, depending on my mood. I don’t allow myself to keep too much booze on hand anymore. Insta-parties happen too often as is.
As a child in the cradle, me nurse with her ladle
Was filling me mouth with an ocean of pap
When a drop from her bottle fell into me throttle
I capered and scrambled clean out of her lap
On the floor I lay crawlin’ and screaming and bawling
'Til me father and mother were called to the fore
All sobbing and sighing they feared I was dying
But soon found I only was crying for more
So stick to the craythur the best thing in nature
For sinking your sorrows and raising your joys
Oh lord how they’d chuckle if babes in their truckle
They only could suckle on poteen me boys

Auchentoshan three wood is pretty good. It finishes in three casks: oak, sherry and bourbon giving up an interesting rich flavor.

I’m not usually into Islays, but Bunnahabhain is an exception. It’s my current favorite. None of the typical heavy peat smoke like most islays. Bit of spicy sherry to it, and deliciously drinkable.
Bringing life into an old thread.
For about the past 5 years I’ve been for the most part Scotch.
Getting back to my roots, I’m currently drinking this exectionally smooth USA product:
18 years old (legal age here boys) and exceptionally smooth.
