What first brought you to Bullshido?

Best Martial Art for the Zombie Apocalypse thread bought me to the site

Omega’s charm and Fake’s wit kept me coming back

Or was it the other way round?

I failed at keeping you away, so now everyone hates me, but I accept that.

Sorry I missed your question, but this was investigated (allegedly) but apparently the victim claimed Jesus gave him a red belt. Que vicious assault.

The video then stayed private for over a decade, until Bobby made the video public over a decade later but when comments were added to Youtube, there was a massive backlash and calls for him and his students to be arrested, so he removed the videos (which still pop up now and then).

Hopefully I just saved you several days of reading the archived BS thread, but if you’re bored enough…here you go.

Oh I went down that rabbit hole back in the day, I was just curious if there was an update.

Stop saying that. NO one here has ever been down an actual rabbit hole, except for Doofa.

It’s a conspiracy theorist code word.

That Bullshido thread isn’t a rabbit hole. It’s the best online source on the subject of the question you just asked, according to REDDIT.

someone is over sensitive about their “Rabbit Hole”

It was years ago - I was mightily pissed off with Go-Kan-Ryu karate and there was a thread here on the 'shido about it which I found after some Google-Fu.

After loitering around the place for a while it left me seriously questioning why the fuck I was doing shotokan

I think I was on a site named Askme when it directed me to Mcdojo.com. That was August 2002 I think. Whichever was the first year this stupid site came into being. I know the first throwdown was weekend the Hulk movie came out.

So yeah.

At least one of those two things turned out to be good…

Artist’s recreation of the change from McDojo.com to Bullshido.

It’s hard to remember. I think I was on Kung Fu Magazine forums in my Kung Fu days and I heard a lot of hate towards this site. I’m not 100% sure.

I really hated Bullshido at first. I thought you were all disrespectful assholes . I was all caught up in the “Kung Fu is superior” and “respect/Mr Miyagi” BS and I wasn’t quite ready for Bullshido.

But being a lover of science and evidence I couldn’t deny that all these self righteous twats were willing to step up and back themselves and I noticed a severe lack of Kung Fu victories in the UFC.

Then I had my first Muay Thai class. Reality hurts. Became a fan soon thereafter.

Don’t you ever dare disrespect Mr. Miyagi in my presence again.

I named my cat Miyagi, both due to his impressive ear hair tusks, but also his impressive abilities to catch flies

You don’t own any cats.

Come on.

Well, no, technically they own me, but still…

To heroically, but obviously misguidedly, leap to the defence of the martial art I was teaching at the time. I had a good row with everyone but was overall pleased with the results. Realised that all the ‘mean’ stuff was actually hiding a lot of support and encouragement. That was in 2006 I think.

Joined in 2006 or 7 or so I think on the old forums. Was in high school and really into Kung Fu at the time. Still have an appreciation for CMA from a visual standpoint and for nostalgia. Not the most frequent poster but appreciated the value of Bullshido and the search for what works and who is FOS. Interesting to see a whole new forum even as the Internet forum itself seems to be a dying platform.

I went to this forum originally to defend Frank Dux. Honestly, at the time I was brainwashed, and had left one martial arts cult (USSD) and just after getting back from Iraq was a live-in student of Frank. I regret ever defending him, and in the decade since cutting all ties with him I’ve gotten a lot of therapy, and done some deprogramming.

I’m in a WAY better place now.

I don’t remember how I found the place, but I joined around 2004 or 2005. Roughly the same time I started BJJ so I suspect it was somehow through that. Posted some super noob questions once and got my ass handed to me (in post form at least).

Have been around to varying extents ever since.

  1. I finally left my first bona-fide Bullsido master after me and my entire school getting our asses kicked at a local “continuous sparring” tournament. Turns out all the deadly woo in the world didn’t replace boring old full resistance sparring.
