We need to grow up

I have tried to get many people to join this forum, but they end up leaving.
You know why? Because most of us act like asses.

I got a teenage girl who did tkd or wanted to join it. She comes here, and people start asking her about her panties and immediately call bullshit. They don’t even stop and apologize AFTER the fact that I vouch for her. I have refered alot of people to this site. I have a friend that does kung fu and competes in koushu and san shou, and he thinks this site is bullshit because of the “all knowing arrogant asshole attitude” on this site that when he found stuff on kung fu it was bashing. I’m NOT saying bullshido is anti kung fu, I know bout Omega and Asia, and what most of the staff think.

The active and contributing members stance is totally on par. Its alot of the people on the forum that just act like retards, and in alot of cases just reply to a thread with things like “cool” and thats it and other little shit (which I am guilty of sometimes).

I’m not claiming to contribute much, but I DO try and get people to join here, but they refuse to because of the huge amount of un needed rudeness here. I’m not talking about when someone is a ninja or a dumbass. I’m talking about the unprovoked insulting of new members.

You (as in alot of the new members that don’t do much but post things here in there thats just in conversation) say "if they are too wimpy don’t let them be here/let them leave " or something like that. Well how the fuck are we supposed to reach out to guys here?

I have refered countless people to this site, and most of them end up checking the site out then leaving. I’m not saying put a ban on swear words, but i’m saying boundries are needed.

And asking something like “what color are your panties” to a 14 year old girl who comes here because they THINK it MIGHT be a 40 year old man posing as a girl is fucking unacceptable. You guys getting my drift? because as much as my post may seem dumb to you, or wimpy, the fact is we as a whole need to mature more, and we NEED more rules here in bullshido, and to enforce them. Because referencing to that teenage girl incident, that made me fucking sick. She only posted a little (thirteen posts or so?) then didn’t come back. I try and get shitloads of people to join, but its not much of a point because next to none of them have the sense of humor we have. Even though the whole STFU newb thing is a joke, many people don’t get that, and think that it IS the sherdog mentality.

I’m stressing this as much as I can right now, because theres alot of people we could be helping, but end up pushing away because they are simply flat out assholes.

Pussies? maybe so, but most of the people i find on say, MAP, get very offended if you even say a little swear word in a convo unneedingly, and face it, those are the kind of people we need to help, sure some of them may be arrogant and refuse to admit what works and such. But theres alot that are alot more open minded then we think (I’m not talking about the guys who cry saying “Bullshido guys are bullies!” but alot of these guys feel bullshido is like a “tough guy contest”).
I’m rambling on yeah. But I stand behind the post I’m attempting to make. Bullshido saved me from flutter kicking at tkd and skipping and dancing around, and reading ashida kim manuals thinking its real out of ignorance of the subject and all of the bullshit around. I want to help people the same. But until we can be just a little more kinder as a whole, we aren’t gonna help too many.

Hear me out.

I’m also trying to get my friend that does kung fu that I mentioned to try and make a post here with what I’m saying.

I was insulted straight away here. I just took it and fired one back (in humour, of course as I knew the system). The insult was deserved though. It was a shite first post, but Phil Elmore being a greedy cunt who refused to give to the Tsunami victims simply because the UN won’t lick his moobs really fucking annoyed me.

You don’t have to give to charity if you don;t want, but when giving a reason please don’t make yourself out to be a pretentious asshole and an ignoramus who completely misses the point of what charity is all about.

To the noobs, when you get insulted, don’t take it seriously. We don’r mean anything offensive we say. If you make good posts and contributions, you will be treated with respect. If you troll, you will be insulted further. Also, since insults and jests and criticisms fly here (everybody has an opinion), we have to find out if you’re thick skinned enough to take it.

No one has insulted me so far.

So hopefully by posting such stupidity, I will be insulted like I truly deserve in the first place, though being insulted now means I’m insulted in the 18th place of my post.

Cheers.

Arde, you suck and your style (none-ryu) sucks too.

Why was this revived? Out of Curiosity…

I can confirm that Bullshido has too much bullshit going on. Members who are allowed to flame, troll and spam anything, everything and anyone they want to? What’s the fucking point in having rules at all? When a few users spam 6 pages of shit for no particular reason, something is wrong.

I’ve been one many messageboards of different kinds, and I’ve identified two extremes:

  1. politically correct feel-good board for the whole family. 100% child friendly with no swearing, “flaming” (like telling someone that they aren’t being funny by posting numa numa again) or impoliteness allowed. The board is based on the idea that the average user is 10 years old, so everything has to be nice and innocent. These are predominantly gaming boards (even though the games are for ages 15 - 18).

  2. out of control hive of trolls, assholes and spammers with no rules. Just mayhem and anarchy. Certain users get elevated or elevate themselves to a position that’s above the rules, common sense and basic manners.

Bullshido is on the verge of ending up in extreme #2, or so it seems. By the way, I read this board for a year or more before joining.

Oh, please. Your “rules” have no consistency or logic behind them. Don’t try to justify pointless anarchy.

Well, in all honesty, it was both the pretty cut-throat approach people have to analysing topics here and the laid back forum style that drew me here. Even in this thread people are talking about different things (even on this page!) which appeals to me, since i hate it when some structure nazi always tries to herd people on topic.

IMHO, if anyones precious enough to get offended by what some random person says over the internet to them, that’s kinda lame. Even if the noobs’ opinions arent as often given due consideration compared to the guys with a kajillion posts-_- I lurked a bit around and I already knew karate had an average rep here, but to get pissed off about an insult to your style just shows your insecurity.

But what I’m talking about is a completely unwarranted attack that occurs for no reason, commited by a person that cannot be reasoned with. If that wasn’t bad enough, he also has a group of nutriding yes-men to support him.

I mean, what if I had replied to your post with “shut the fuck up you child-molesting faggot asswipe” ? Wouldn’t make a lot of sense.

ahhhh, yeah, I guess i took it outta context there then. I seem to live under the delusion that people are generally all on good terms, but if someone comes out of the blue and makes a comment like that, I’d agree with you. I guess it depends on the manner and context to some degree though. I’m so jaded to comments if you did say “shut the fuck up you child-molesting faggot asswipe” (which, dont get me wrong, Im glad you didnt) I’d probably go on a spiel about how I prefer eating children rather than raping them, although thats always a viable option :stuck_out_tongue:

But digressions aside, I see and conceed that. If youre not just joshing somone, then its BS. And i definitely agree on the whole cronyism thing. I cant stand people who just go with someone popular for the sake of wanting to be identified with them <_<

As an ardent supporter of the “grow the fuck up” camp, I agree.

I think Bullshido has a lot going for it, and I enjoy alot of the discussions here, so don’t get me wrong. However, I also think Bullshido could be a hell of a lot better (and respected) than it is. AND I firmly believe it’s attitude could be preserved while still instituting some rules and structure to it. (I say this as someone with plenty of professional Web/Forum/Moderator/Admin experience, btw.)

Say what you will about (for example) Phil Elmore and his Martialist crap. His Web site still looks ten times better than Bullshido, and the material (articles, etc.) is still far superior in general quality to anything offered on Bullshido. As long as folks like Phil and Bullshido dojos (as another example) look and feel superior to Bullshido, they will always “win” in any contest of public perception.

Bullshido is supposedly all about fighting Bullshido, but mostly this site just preaches to the anti-bullshido choir, with occasional fires caused by unsuspecting Noobs and goofy nutriders to show up so we can flame the crap out of them for a while (until they leave)…

It’s alive! Alive! Or not.

That is why most of the people here are preaching to the converted.

Swear, fine. That is allowed here. But cursing someone out for no reason other than a disagreement over a thread is juvenile and harassing. It doesn’t prove anything and in most discussions it actually makes you look defensive and unsubstantiated if you have to resort to insults.

I agree with the overall goal of making people put up or shut up, exposing frauds, and being frank about disagreements. Martial Talk is a place where veiled nice is really just a velvet daggar. That is Bull. Say it straight out. THat happens here.

The rest is just garbage.

I personally enjoy how it is. Bullshido tends to get greatly underestimated because of the laid-back approach about what we can do. This same approach actually brings out a lot more interesting topics and discussions than the dull, rigid crap you read on MAP. Here you can call someone on their bullshit and not get banned or told to act nice. Here you can run off the newbies who think they’re grand fucking masters or enlightened individuals at 20 years old and the 16-year old kung fu experts, and if it’s not a serious issue you can completely disagree with someone and tell them they’re a total fucktard for their POV. There’s no other place quite like it, and that’s why I’m here so much.

It also runs off the really hypersensitive types who obviously don’t understand the Greater Internet Fuckward Theory:

that IS a good theory. Thats kinda what I was getting at initially, that people will just act like 'tards online and you just gotta deal with it, coz internet heros are a dime-a-dozen. That said, most guys here are remarkably eloquent and well spoken when they bother to make an ass of some wanna-be.

Hmmm, how can I put this…

If you make a statement that encourages debate ( and that is almost any statement), and as the debat progress you show a LACK of understanding for the opposing view point ( I said understanding NOT agreement) or show a, how can I put it…ridgid and based on bullshit, then you will subject yourself to flamming and being ragged on, especially if you take yourself too serioulsy and think that somehow, with your “vast knowledge and understanding” you are right, even though you have no basis for it.

And when those guys and their attempts to “educate” fail, well then, “unleash the dogs of war” !!

Hey, shitbag … you posted you were leaving the Forum so make good and piss off. Bad enough that you posted on a thread you know nothing about, were completely off topic and then whined forever … take a hike Fin Fukuckle.

I hear rumors that Phil needs a new piss boy to hold his stubby nubby for him … you are just the 'tard for the job. :phil2:

So wait, the kid got off point in another thread and was flamed…

And in response revived a dead thread to complain about it?

Honestly, Plasma, what you said was covered in more detail and complexity in the first 18 or so pages of this discussion months ago.

The point remains, you want to change, MAKE it change. Become a supporting member (something I haven’t done yet). Set the example, take people apart without the constant flaming and eventually, maybe, you’ll get the point across. But there’s not much other option to you on an internet forum.

In any event, I say to you what I’ve said about myself. Couple hundred post non-supporting member who hasn’t been to a throwdown or contributed to outing BS = Non-important voice on matters about Bullshido.

Right or wrong, that’s the way it is.

I’m sure that in real life JFS is a nice guy…

One just needs to work on perfecting the funny bone kata.
