Top Contender Shin Guards

I’m interested in getting some Top Contender shin guards and I’m wondering how the quality is and if they’re worth buying. Right now they’re on sale for about 18 bucks and I’m thinking of buying it because I’m on a tight budget but I just want to make sure I’m not wasting my money. If anyone can give me some feedback on this it’d be greatly appreciated.

Dunno whether Top Contender makes more than one type.

If they’re the ones I’ve borrowed, 18 bucks would be a very good buy. Full leather, good padding, strong stitching for the straps.

Who’s selling them at that price?

Hey my old gym used to use them back when I was doing Shootfighting and they were awesome. But as strong as billy sol hurok thinks the stitching on the straps are I didn’t think the straps were all that great, they kinda sucked cuz they moved even if you had them on tight (aka…they loosened up)

I have a pair of top contender shin pads and they’re the most confortable shin pads I’ve ever worn. They’re a bit light on the padding though(which I like, you may not). Mine having been falling apart a bit, but I’ve been using them for about a year and they’re still plenty useable. The straps are also easier than a lot of shin pads to fasten and tighten (I’ve not really noticed the loosening problem mentioned above in mine).

Shin pads are for little pussies.

These are literally days away from my door:

which includes… pretty much everyone that does kickboxing?

Yes, because they don’t have Chi…

My chi fell down the back of the sofa, hence the need for shinguards.

pussy…

haha, thank you everyone.

The shin pads i’m getting are these http://www.combatsports.com/detail.aspx?ID=22562

oh, I guess those are the cheaper version of the pair I have. I’ve never used those.

Yeah, ditto.

Though I’ve got nothing against pleather, in this context. In fact, I ended up buying Fairtex ones that are pleather – the Top Contender ones weren’t in stock and I got tired of waiting.

I like the Fairtex ones very much; they have cloth on the surface that’s touching your skin, so less slipping due to sweat.

And they have even more padding than the Top Contenders. Which I actually see as more of a benefit to my sparring partners than to me. (Which is how I view shin pads in general – more as protection for the kickee than the kicker.)

Of course, the extra padding also lets me kick them harder in good conscience.:angel2:

Yeah those style are for ulta pussies unless you get the more expensive pro pair which are for girls (oh yeah kidS I went there):headbang:

man, I feel totally the opposite. I don’t really care much if my sparring partner kicks me without shinpads. I just don’t the feeling of banging my shin into someone’s knee, and especially not unpadded.

Omega, I can only take that as a compliment to the more expensive pair of shinpads, since we all know that female fighters are more bad ass than male fighters (who are, for the most part, cheese dicks).

Hah! now I know you’re lying because you like cheese!!!

ok, that got a chuckle outta me…

Pancrase, the first modern Mixed Martial Arts competition outside Brazil

Frank Shamrock, Guy Mezger, Jason Delucia…pussies

Ken Shamrock and Bas Rutten, pussies

Yuki Kondo…PUSSY!

This could go on for pages, but there is no need to embarass these pussies any further, the almighty omega has spoken and the Kings of Pancrase are running scared!

No no no, they were forced to wear shin guards by pussies.

Er…pussies like Masakatsu Funaki, Minoru Suzuki, Yusuke Fuke, and…Ken Shamrock? The founders of Pancrase? LOL!
