ALLENDALE - Police on Friday charged a 35-year-old karate instructor with choking an 11-year-old boy during a recreation program, authorities said.
Vincent Gravina, who owns the Tiger Schulman center in Queens, was charged with assault and endangering the welfare of a minor, said Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli. Gravina, who lives on Montrose Terrace, was released on $5,000 bail and ordered to cease participation in borough recreation programs and to avoid contact with the victim. Arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday.
“The suspect became irate and went to the boy and put his hands around his neck and pushed him up against the wall,” Molinelli said. “It took a third party to get him to release the boy.” The boy suffered superficial neck injuries and momentarily had difficulty speaking but has since recovered, the prosecutor said.
And who made such an accusation? If you read my statements very carefully, I was weighing which was worse, an instructor strangling his students or one that molests them. I couldn’t have been more clear.
I believe it’s more irresponsible for someone such as yourself to draw incorrect conclusions or/and attempting to take issues out of context.
Actually, I remember Schulmann himself getting locked up about 10 years ago. He got wind of some instructor who used to be associated with him bad-mouthing him. Schulmann stormed over to the school. The instructor ran and locked himself in his office. Schulmann kicked down the door and adminstered a, ehhhh, a “lesson.”
Said instructor explained that he didn’t fight back becaue he wanted to set an example to his students that fighting is wrong.

Yeah, you don’t look for fights. But when one comes along, into your dojo, kicks you door in, and starts whupping on you … if that’s not the time to fight, when is?

It was just a misunderstanding, the instructor was only demonstrating a choke hold from the front. The kid probably screwed up the technique for escape.
Damn I know Vince Gravina too. He’s a badass to the extreme. Why the fuck was he choking a litttle kid? Was this a self defense movement and the kid and his parents just took it badly?
I got it to work now. Damn, it doesn’t say much else. That guy is one of the most succesfull instructors I’ve ever met when it comes to children so I cant see him all of a sudden trying to choke an 11 year old.
