anyone have any good aguments for or against it? and I am aware this is:beatdead:
Even for the “bullshit”, “HA,HA, FUNNY FUNNY KATA’s 'er stupids” forum this thread needs to be locked and you need to leave the internets and think about what you did wrong.
THe only “decent” arguments for the existence of chi simply define chi as other things that are known to exist, like air or body-mechanics. The “mysterious energy” chi is absurd.
Putting every once of power you can generate in one place, at one time, through body mechanics.
Anything else is BS.
Unless you know Yellow Bamboo.
for fucks sake, why does this thread exist?
Gee, maybe I’ll go and start one asking people on this site if they think BJJ can be effective?
half the chi’s in this board owe me child support.
Then don’t post about it.
It would probably have been best just to start this thread in trollshido in the first place…
Fixed.
The Force is an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together.
Oh wait, you mean in real life?
Suck my cock faggot.
Maybe we should make the search button really big with glowing flashing lights.
Be serious please. I know for a fact that there are people on the boards who study Xingyi, Pa kua or Tai chi, all of which in there basest forms were based on the belief in chi, so if it IS bs why do people still study it?
Because they are deluded.
I did TCC without ever needing a belief in chi. There are some cool techniques in the soft arts you mention, and chi is usually given as the explanation, but that doesn’t mean it is the explnation. In my experience they can be explained by the speed and power that naturally comes from being relaxed, and possibly from learning how to use one’s tendons instead of muscles (although that one’s my own theory).
And of course the great big bullshit applications you may be thinking of (“Use the force, Luke” stylee) are no more than parlour tricks.
I like Zangdog’s comment.
FWIW, I recall a seminar with Edward Hines (Ba Gua adept under Luo De Xui from Taiwan) and he was sceptical of the existence of Chi. His view is good enough for me.
Yes, I like Zangdog’s perspective on relaxation and the inherent idea that the expression of force is not impeded by muscular tension. Crikey, sorry for the Bruce Lee allusion.
I remember Mike McCallum’s reflexive KO of Don Curry. Best example I can think of at the moment.
Can one of you two knuckleheads explain how one goes about using one’s tendons instead of their muscles?
They’ll show you on webcam but it’ll cost 19.99 :5sigh:
actually I think all of your theories are sound but I’ve been hit with what people call chi strikes and they felt kinda solid to me. it was no more than a tap but it doubled me over
LOL, wimp.
Sorry, I was too casual in my Reading. I was thinking of Relaxation in the arm as a whole. I overlooked the comment on Tendons in lieu of Muscles. Apologies and thanks for the correction.:happy7:
