I think they would have looked at it the same way you described it above. She has a vagina so she is a woman, which ironically is at loggerheads with some of the other ideology you subscribe to (just an observation). They probably have a very binary way of looking at this kind of topic, so i can completely believe she has a female passport. Once again not taking a stance, or saying if that is right or wrong, just responding to your comment. These topics are so heated i just feel everything needs a disclaimer.
Edit: i do think calling her a man is not fair, inaccurate and misses a lot of the nuance to have a constructive discussion.
