The 2024 Olympic Thread

And Imane won gold.

Algerian boxing. Kazakhstanian judo. KJJ.

What a world. Let’s go.

So. Apparently breakdancing is not our strongest sport.

Thankfully everyone who beat her is a man.

It’s funny because breakdancing was created here.

But this has me pissed.

Jake Paul thinks boxing is in the LA 2028 Olympics. It’s not, yet.

This article is a great example of how online media is designed to make you dumber. No mention of Olympic boxing’s current peril. Just what Jake Paul said today.

But seriously, Dr Gunn is a pretty good breakdancer.

Australia’s top ranked.

I’m thinking about reaching out. About the Mass cyber assault and all.

You’re going to read a million opinions and most of them are from fat bodies who can’t dance.

All the female breakdancers looked like tomboys. They didn’t look like lesbians they just looked liked tomboys. I can’t really explain it.

Have you watched skateboarding?

Savage.

I missed that. I’ll have to watch the replays on my streaming service.

You should also watch Red Dawn.

Yesterday was the 40th anniversary.

Wolverines.

I watched parts of it yesterday. I got to the part where Russians just parachuted and the kids escaped into the truck. I have to watch the rest of it. It seems like a good movie.

Which one are you watching?

Well clearly the 40 year old one, with the spetsnaz commandos and Communist Mexico.

Same movie that basically set up the last 4 decades of right wing Invasion USA fearmongering.

Spoilers

Dr. Gunn is literally the most awesome thing to ever cross the internet: breakdancing Jesus.

Moscow took note quickly and cyberweaponized breakdancing, in order to distract everyone from the fact that Ukraine is on counteroffensive inside Russia territory.

Kazakhstan judoka, stand forward and nearby.

I feel like this is the other side of the propaganda.

There is a lot to be confirmed. It’s possible to be XY and appear completely differently to what your chromosomes are saying, I’m not stating an opinion on what that implies, just clarifying the condition.

Algeria is also not known for it’s kindness towards the LGBT community, so their view on a complex topic such as this should also be a consideration in the conversation.

I know the IBA have lots of controversy associated with them, so once again we would need to look at that carefully.

It would just be nice to see conversations on these topics being open an honest with the goal of of improving our understanding and making rational decisions.

I’m not trying to push for an outcome, the outcome needs to be what it needs to be, but show me the groundwork that leads to your conclusion …

I just got off a really long flight, so i hope that makes sense, I left Monday morning 11am (US time) and got home wednesday morning 3am (US time), longest trip home to date.

Out of curiosity what outcome would the russions want through a campaign like this, not sure I see the angle.

The Australian performance killed me … that to me is like a nightmare, getting onto such a huge stage and realising there is just no chance whatsoever. It would be like getting a high pressure job and finding out on day 1 you are completely out of your depth. I give employers a long list of disclaimers before I take a job on experience I don’t have or things I’m not good at to avoid situations like that.

What do you mean? Russia has been using social media to conduct an offensive against the West for decades. In 2016 they used Facebook to organize protests on both sides of various issues to sow discord and chaos.

I’m not disagreeing that disinformation happens, I’m just asking why this specific campaign. So when i look at disinformation, i try and understand what the motive / outcome would be, in part to determine if there is motive for it to be disinformation. So if this is Russian disinformation why this specific message, what are they trying to achieve?

Divide and conquer isn’t just a battlefield tactic, it works at the scale of a society.

If you occupy millions of people with arguing over stupid culture war shit like non-sexy M&Ms and whether people’s genitals match their clothing, those people are not focused on actually important things that move the country forward and make it stronger.

If mom and dad want to take the family to Disneyland, but the kids are going to be screeching and arguing over something ridiculous the whole way, they might decide to just stay home.
