Scott Sonnon

I looking to buy some of Scott Sonnon’s stuff but found his attitude on his forum to be that of a dick head… Is there anyother stuff out there that is better for example Kettlebells or routines others have tried…

Sonnon doesn’t do kettlebells I don’t think. I absolutely HATE his writing style. He practicaly has his own made up language.

Scott’s a bit odd but he is quite good.

Pavel Tsatsouline has quite a few DVD’s on them as well.

Why are you leaning towards the bells as opposed to the clubs?

To be honest I am still reading up on both and the possibility of the bells is due to the reports I have read from other martial artists and how they have benefited them…The clubs seem to be all about Scott and how you have to believe is and his words only…

I just happened to come across this today… Apparently he won something or other.

I wasn’t impressed to be honest and in regards to his work he promotes, it just seemed to me like a Mauy Thai bout, to be honest. I would be more impressed if he went in the UFC…

I do a lot of Pavel Tsatsouline stuff and think I will look at his stuff on Kettlebells…

His standup is average in that clip. Nothing wrong with being average…unless you sell videos on “fisticuffs”…

I think if Sonnon went against a good boxer he would be knocked out, to me if your going to produce a DVD Titled, Fisticuffs. Then to me you need to be able to box or punch…

To me it was a bit of propaganda to sell his DVD’S and his idea of training…

Now, if had done that against a highly ranked UFC/Pride Fighter then I would be impressed and possibly consider forgetting about his self-interest attitude and buy the thing…

From my research that I have done today, I have read that Rodney Kings Street Boxing would be better…

I’ve used the clubs for over 20 years, long before I had ever heard of Scott.

Ask anyone who has them.

If you pick up a lighter weight pair, you won’t regret it.

I will consider it and will have to find someone besides Sonnon to get them from.

Holy crap do you have a hardon for this guy. Seriously. Unless you’ve got a specific allegation to make about the guy, give it a rest.

Do you have anything else to contribute here, or is your only goal to rant about Sonnon?

No not at all…Maybe you should seek help though, for your hardon problem???

I Just don’t like the guy’s attitude, who knows maybe I will try his stuff and think wow or not wow…You may or may not slag of Matt Furey, but at least he has a good attitude and his stuff is ok…

Respect and patience goes along way and remember this it is hard to say sorry and it’s even harder to be nice…

Drop your weapons! You are surrounded by armed bastards!

Gene Hunt…

Respectfully having trained under Scott for a number of years, he is a dick. As far as “his” MA it is just about worthless. Essentially he was only partially trained in ROSS, Retuinskihs spotification of Kadochnikov’s MA. Retuinskih was essentially asked to leave Kadochnikov because he was watering down and selling out the system. Kadochnikov himself was simply a name put onto a bunch of research into MA that wasn’t his. That is why when you see vids they look weird… he couldn’t take that stuff with him when he left. The real American heir to the system that Kadochnikov and other Russians built for the last 50+ years is Matt Powell, with his PraMek, not Sonnon. Sonnon is a theif and fraud and a hack trying to package only partially learned material in a way that makes it seem like it is worthwhile(he even is making a vanity feature film to feature his MA to repackage it again). In truth he stabbed his teacher and his friends(those that helped him get there in the back). Then took an already sportified system and sportified it even more and is trying to sell it as a real world MA.

Were you at Matt Powell’s seminar this past weekend?

Woa, woa. Is this a discussion of physical training, health and fitness or what? I can say for certain this doesn’t belong on MABS, either.

Yep that was me. Mike.

Well when Sonnon wants to call all of those things(aka his yoga) a martial art that will save your life if ever attacked by ten guys with knives, than yes it is a discussion of those things only in so far as to say that they are not an MA, and I don’t care if you are the Dahli Lama or the Sahi Baba, all the meditation and yoga in the world won’t save you if you don’t know a real MA.

To package it that way and say that it will is a fraud.

Bought one of his books and a dvd. I agree about his writing style. I figured it was either a case of not being able to express the ideas well or trying to “baffle them with bullshit”

Since the stretching and lifting exercises worked, I gave him the benefit of the doubt.

I think the Clubbells are tremendously overpriced and used bars with weights on one end while I worked his method. I might be able to see his argument about their balance being better and therefor less injury prone, but I never had a problem.

Stupid me, didn’t see this was a one class act of thread necromancy. Moved to Guantanamo, fuck it.

Sonnon had a deal going a while back where he was offering two of the smaller clubbells and an instructional DVD for around $100. I bought the package and was for the most part satisfied. I do feel that the clubbells are a bit overpriced and you could probable find something cheaper in the indian club market. On a side note due the way that clubells are weighted in causes pain in my wrist ( I had to have surgery on it thanks to the army) so I switched to using kettlebells and have had a better experience.
