I’m not sure who here is in the NFA game, but I decided to go for it this summer. I’ve been interested in suppressors for a long time, but never wanted the paperwork hassle. Thanks to Silencershop and a local kiosk, paperwork is now really easy.
I also did a Form 1 through them for an AR-15 SBR lower
In case anyone is wondering why I didn’t wait for HPA (or successor legislation), here is my reasoning:
1.) I don’t think it will happen
2.) Suppressor prices are incredibly low right now, so even with the $200 hit, I’m not doing too bad.
3.) Maryland will almost definitely outlaw suppressors if they are pulled off the NFA registry. In fact, there is some confusion right now as to whether or not suppressors not on the NFA registry would even be legal the way laws are written. So there may already be a de facto ban triggered for any suppressor not bought and registered with the NFA. Regardless, I’m grandfathered/not waiting two+ years for prices to drop back down.
Feel free to use this thread to discuss the NFA or NFA items, whatever.
I’d like to get some, but I’m holding off for the legislation. Prices are pretty awesome right now but every time I get enough money to drop on one, a good sale on a lower comes up and I end up building another rifle. Since my safe is full, I’ll probably go ahead with the $200 if the legislation stalls any more than it is right now.

I don’t know if this makes your decision any easier, but Q is running a “buy now, pay later” promotion with Silencershop until the end of the week. Basically you pay $205 for a tax stamp + Silencershop doing all your paperwork and processing, and pay for the actual can later. Like you don’t have to pay for it until your form 4 gets approved. Q cans are somewhat pricy, but they are all titanium and the Quick Attach models come with two different muzzle devices. The initial reviews are outstanding.

I did this because I want the freedom to loan certain suppressors to friends for hunting or to help them teach their kids to shoot without having to be physically present. If I were to be injured on the range, I want a friend to be able to legally take possession of any of my suppressors while I am being treated. Additionally I still travel regularly for work, and my wife needs access to my gun safes, where the suppressors will be stored. This provides an extra layer of legal protection for us.
If NFA laws were a little more lenient when it came to short term loan of items or allowing immediate family unsupervised access, I would have no interest in trusts.

I would go with trust. Typically no yearly fees, filing with the state and/or irs, and trust paperwork doesn’t require you to go through the local LEO which gets political. Plus my brother is a Lawyer and I’ll get him to set up the trust. I’d also like my wife to be able to sell all my stuff if I die or something like that.
For the folk who have been holding off for some form of HPA/SHARE act, what are your thoughts now? I think it is even less likely to happen than when I started this thread.

Yep. I’m pretty sure it’s not going to happen now. I’ve been exploring other options just for fun.
Just got my first form 4 tax stamp back, for a surefire Ryder -22s. Right at about 200 days. Should be getting a few more back in the next few months. Really glad I did not wait on HPA. Would have missed a bunch of fire sales and also HPA is dead.
Don’t worry, Maryland aspires to be like NY. One of the major reasons I purchased a ton of suppressors this year was that members of the General Assembly intended to completely outlaw them if they were deregulated, but with a grandfather clause.

And that’s why people I know…not me…have been buying tons of flashlight tubes.
Oh snap, I now have possession of my Surefire Ryder, YHM Turbo, Q Thunder Chicken, Mac Bros Vapor, and picked up my Liberty Cosmic today. The Q Thunder Chicken is awesome on both a 16" AR and on my .308 bolt gun. The YHM Turbo lives on my 10.5" SBR and works great.
Ironically the first suppressor I bought, the Griffin Optimus, is still not in my possession despite having been approved in early March. USPS lost the stamp and I have been too busy to do the dumb stuff you need to do to request a certified copy. I’ll hopefully get that over to NFA branch to my tomorrow.

I wish I could do that, but trading is pretty much my only option these days. That trade isn’t happening, but goddamn I want a Benelli.
