Who is this high level BJJ guy?
I would not worry about it.
Conversations should be wandering, like the vagus nerve.
@A11 you should start judo just to get your toes wet.
That is probably good advice.
That being said, all of these boys,
These men,
Who went into the ring.
They were as gentle as they were violent.
Mad, all of them.
Some of them blind, in their madness.
And some of them wise.
Some of them both, or either, depending on the time of day.
âŚ
And arenât we are lucky to have today, fierce competitors, who are women.
As Kano Sensei said, âif you want to see good Judo, watch the women practice.â
In my own experience, women will fight in every division they are allowed to,
and are indeed very fierce, that way, as competitors.
I would probably do well but itâs not worth the injuries
This Japanese girl made an entire youtube channel just talking about judo. Itâs pretty interesting.
I have always advised my students, to avoid violence, pain, suffering, alcohol, and drugs.
But they have always worked pretty well for me.
Youâll get a few bumps here and there but thereâs no guarantee youâll get seriously injured.
Everybody says judo is the worst. BJJ is pretty terrible too.
If I was 25 and recovered in a few hours maybe
Find the right club(s), that wonât treat you like hamburger, and is not filled with idiots.
Or donât.
I admire Ball Room Dancing, as much or more, than combat sports.
To be honest muay thai has fucked me up more than judo has ever done.
It is different athletic prowess though. One doesnât make you good at the other.
Thailand was the only country I visited, out of 37, where the reality exceeded the hype, on their martial arts, and combat sports.
I decided pretty quickly, as an experienced boxer, that Muay Thai was a sport I would rather watch, and drink beer, than compete in, in Bangkok, because they were fighting for rice, and to eat, and not starve.
Plus, I really donât like getting kicked in the legâŚ
With due credit to the Dog Brothers, but that is another story, for another day.
I am not interested in doing things I have a talent for
Itâs the things I canât do that intrigues me.
I had a discussion on TaeKwonDo with a buddy on the streets when a TKD fighter went up and corrected me (as always).
It was there my faith was sealed.
A regular brown belt in judo is getting slammed by me. Itâs not even a question.
But I donât care for it. Thereâs no art in slamming.
Have you heard of Ura Nage?
And suplexes?
I have hip thrown a fat Guy on concrete and he got Up both Times despite being quite high in the air. From just seeiing judo on the screen.
Itâs no art.
If i threw that kick instead he wouldnât get Up.
Catch wrestling is cool though.
Thatâs the one thing I would do if it was available.
Yep. Single kick in the air. Definitley way harder than judo.
