I want to argue about nothing

Hi,
Being new here (as of the last few days), I naively tried to be respectful about potentially posting a link to a PDF of an out-of-print Judo book by searching for ‘Policy’, and then ‘FAQ’ (bloody search engine returned nothing for either of those terms).

Then, trying to continue in ‘due diligence’ mode, I found the ‘Policy’ and ‘FAQ’ subforums.

“Hooray!” I thought.

Then, finding the post title, ‘Policy: External Links’, I thought my search had come to an end.

But no, because, after reading the first two pages, then the last page, of a thread which is about 6 or 7 pages, and finding no policy stated, I realized that what I was reading was not a policy, but a discussion about a policy.

Suggestion: Why not designate a discussion about a proposed policy, or alteration to an existing policy, with the same template-like name each time (e.g., ‘Discussion: XYZ Policy’), and when policies have been finalized, use the actual ‘Policy: [Name of Policy]’, and lock that post so that it does not turn into a thread / discussion?

So, I suppose that I am suggesting making the above a policy! Or does that make it a meta-policy?

I will suggest this to the Great Beings in charge.

The current policies can be found, hyperlinked, at the bottom of every page. For convenience:

https://www.bullshido.net/forums/showthread.php?t=336
https://www.bullshido.net/forums/showthread.php?t=88078

And, yes, they are slightly in need of retooling. It’s on my whiteboard, literally, I look at it almost every day.

I want to argue about nothing

No idea if this is the right place for this or not, but I am sure it will be relocated if it belongs somewhere else.

Here is a link to a PDF of the 1958 OUT OF PRINT edition of Kyuzo Mifune’s famous Judo book, ‘Canon of Judo: Principle and Technique’.

Enjoy

The guiding principle is you are responsible for what you post. If you post something that causes harm to the site or its membership, we reserve the right to censor or offline that content.

I am not a lawyer. My current understanding of US copyright is life of the author + 50 years, which - again, in my understanding - has elapsed for this particular work. If I’m wrong, well, we’ll find out together. Only stating this, here, because you were half-assed asking in a different thread.

So, you want us to review this book ? I’ve read it multiple times in the original very bad English translation.

We are in the reviews section. Maybe YOU should review it ?

A fair policy.

I posted this because I thought that it might be useful for members here (especially new ones, like me) to be able to get a copy of this esteemed publication and not have to pay several hundred dollars for it.

In my attempt to be as conscientious as possible about using the forums correctly, I spent about an hour or more yesterday looking for the ‘Policy’ on whether I could post or not post a link to this on Bullshido - unsuccessful in that, because the ‘Policy’ is not stated (the thread purporting to state the policy is actually a discussion).

I also tried, during that hour, to figure out the appropriate forum in which to post this link - unsuccessfully, as things around here are not exactly clear.

And just because you have “read [the book] multiple times” does not mean everyone here has; nor does it mean that they should be deprived of the opportunity to do so.

Maybe I should refrain from posting links I think will be helpful.

How was I “half-asssed asking”?

Maybe you were half-assed in understanding that, as I clearly said in the other thread, I was actually (a) making a suggestion to make things clearer, and (b) trying to be helpful.

I find it interesting, and unfortunate, that some people here are willing to criticize, instead of perhaps saying “Thank you”.

This forum is for reviews, it says it in the title.

So are you going to review the book this forum is for reviewing books and training videos not just posting possible copyright violation scanned books.

Try reading your post in the other thread, objectively. You didn’t ask permission to post this PDF. You almost did, but you went off on a tangent. Thus, half-assed.

Thank you.

I can remember having this discussion about this very book somewhere. Maybe it was the old Judo Forum? Maybe here years ago ?

Anyway, there are videos of K. Mifune doing Judo, all over the Internet. The books is cool, but the videos show him actually doing Judo. Some of them are of him when he was more middle-aged than an old man, too.

No tangent at all.

I made a suggestion for actually posting a policy in the thread that was supposed to state the policy.

And maybe you could also try acknowledging what I was trying to do, instead of adopting a myopic view, and distorting the whole issue.

And also, instead of constantly criticizing, try doing what nobody in this whole exchange has done - tell me where resources of the nature I posted should actually be posted, rather than just harping on the fact that it was in the wrong place.

That is the difference between me and you - I am still asking (in the para above) where that should have been posted, i.e., trying to find out how to use the forum correctly.

Was just trying to be helpful.
Was just trying to be helpful.
So, tell us what you think of the book ? That would be helpful, as we are in the review section of the site…

You seem like a decent person, but then you say stupid shit, like the above. Where did I criticize your placing the PDF link in the (in)correct forum? Please, show me.

What I did was to approve your post, which was in a moderated status - i.e. not visible to anyone besides Staff. You may not understand that piece, but when I did so, I gave permission for the thread to exist in this exact subforum, thus implicitly answering the question of where it should live - a question, as I pointed out, that you never actually asked.

The thread in which you suggested a policy exist in a particular place, I responded succinctly with where you could find the policies you are looking for. Anything not covered in those policies, you may ask publicly, or via PM, or you may roll the dice, like you did with the OP for this thread.

Now, would you care to get off your high horse, and be a productive member, or do you just want to argue all day? Believe me, I have the tolerance for either, but you’re now down 0:2. Please, stop trying to win the interwebz; it is making you look like a fucking idiot.

Fuck it. I moved this whole mess, here. If you would like to try to post your PDF again (and, I agree, it’s a nice little reference to have, and I’m sure the membership appreciate it), please do so again in the reviews forum, here:
https://www.bullshido.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=59

Please be aware that the very first post is likely to be BKR asking you to review the book, rather than just posting a link. If you can’t take that heat, I would recommend you post to the YMAS forum, here:
https://www.bullshido.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=54

And, just so we’re clear on the pecking order: I serve as the site administrator and principal moderator, at the pleasure of the site’s owners and steering committee. If you have an issue with me, I invite you to take it up with them.

And,

Thank you.
