I have a new topic I like to take nunchuka's up my ass.

one day the MMA world will realize that everything they do comes from a tma…any way… Why is Machido so good, hes accurate, and efficent. None of this swing at anything crud that has taken over the striking in MMA. He dropped Tito with a knee to the liver because he hit his liver rather than the just throwing a knee at his torso. His timing and distance are excellent. Sweeps are top notch…Why learn BJJ or grappling, so when they try to single or double leg you you can punch them in the back of the head and leave. If punching to the back of the head was legal in MMA you would see a lot less shooting for take downs. Mauy Thai is a TMA. MMA is a sport, not a style, i dont understand why people dont get that. Didnt they get rid of heel kicks to the kidneys while some one is in your guard…thats a sport rule not a style rule. If a student at a BJJ dojo asks to learn self defense, do they teach it according to mma rules, god i hope not. Kick boxing is a sport, not a style, BJJ is a style not a sport. I guess i believe any style could be successful at MMA as long as you know what the rules are. If i cant punch the guy in the back of the head while he shoots, he will probably be successful because the rules allow him to be.

Whoa, seriously?

to all of it or one specific part and yes i will clarify for you .

donkey punch is teh anti-grapple!

BJJ is just a game. honestly its really contrived if you play it. butt scoots, spider guards, omoplata’s, its all kinda silly if your just trying to kick smeone’s ass. fun as hell, but contrived. i’m okay with that.

but i’ll bet i could use it to break a dudes arm in a fight. or choke a dude unconsious if i didn’t want to hurt him. don’t knock sports abilities to get you ready to fight.

seriously though, if a guy shoots in and scoops up your hips, do you think a) you will be able to effectively punch the back of his head and b) it will stop him from dumping you on your head? you are usually going to be better off using your arms to keep him off your hips in the first place. focusing on cheap shots is a poor strategy.

and how does making a guy piss blood the next day (if digging you heels in his back can generate enough force to do that) keep you from getting your ass kicked if he’s pounding you? most grapplers would argue your legs will serve you better being used to control his posture from the bottom.

oh yeah and the whole aliveness thing… sports got it. not sure about styles…

I have a new topic MMA is a sport it all came from TMA

Dont get me wrong i enjoy watching MMA but its not a style, its a sport. MMA didnt invent the roundhouse, armbar, jab, shin choke, triangle, front kick etc. The latest generation always seems to forget that these things have been around long before them.

One word for anyone who doubts this: rugby.

 1. Did you, um, see UFCs 1-4?
 2. Clinch/Greco/Judo style throws are preferred in teh street, I think. Most BJJ guys have shitty takedowns and it’s a definite flaw.
 3. Rabbit punches and elbows to the back of the head/spine are a two-way street my friend.

You don’t know shit about shit.

seriously if you try a double leg in a street fight, be careful. Someones going to sprawl back push your head down into the asphalt then knock you out, or even worse choke you out from the rear since your already face down. After you wake up, by them a beer because they could of done anything to you at that point. Do you think you can take a hard punch to the back of the head and still have your wits about you? Im not knocking BJJ as a style, but one reason it has been so succesful in the ufc is the rules help allow it to be like no kneeing a downed opponent in the head. Just like karate in the 70’s had no knees or elbows, no groin strikes, crappy slap points, no throws or sweeps etc. Can it get you in great shape, yes i believe it can, just like football, basketball, swimming etc, but its still a sport at the end of the day. If your in a altercation on the street, do you go by MMA rules or no rules?

I’m amazed that after so many years threads on this site can still go in this direction.

http://www.myvideofight.com/UFC/UFC-1-The-Beginning-1-46 1st fight is a great example…but i know shit

um. shooto was started in '85. no one thinks mma invented the punch. there are only so many ways the body can move. the fact is, the right hook is the most powerful way to transfer momenum to the other guys brain through your fist, its body mechanics not style.

and sprawling is a skill to be trained and developed. some random dude on the street will not instinctively sprawl and donkey punch.

and i hate to break it to you, but an arm punch or hammer fist to the back of the head from some drunk dude isn’t going to phase you all that much. now eye gouges, nut grabs… thats another story (sarcasm)

and bjj as a primary style really isn’t all that effective in MMA anymore. Demian Maia is the exception to rule these days.

I’m the BJJ player and your the nuthugger. something’s wrong here.

why am I even arguing here? come to a throwdown sometime and test your theories.

Frankly I’m flabbergasted. I genuinely expected that monster of a paragraph to turn into a “haha just kidding” stupid joke.

I feel like there’s a general malaise with arguing with this kind of stupid. It’s so repetitive and useless. Few have IIF’s stamina.

of what exactly?

…but i know shit

and you smell like it

I have a new topic…Trollshido is a sub-forum, it all came from posts like this.

Lyoto Machida and Shotokan - No BS Martial Arts

Well, YMAS for now.

I can’t deal with deadhorses anymore. heck I pissed Tom off by combining an old eye gouge thread with a new one.

I’ve been culling and dumping with little comment accept links now.

Trying to follow Tom Kagan’s example.
2 things about Karate (gross simplifications and generalization alert)

I like Machida and don’t find him boring, but what he needs to do is work on his Muay Thai more so he can wear them down with karate and finish them off with Muay Thai for some exciting knock outs.
I am quite sure you already know this,

but its not about if it looks awsome my friend ^.^ its about if its effective or not!!! :turban:

I have a friend who does go jyu ryu (or something like that) wich is a form of Karate.
I have been to his training place and they do alot of sparring, alot of physical training
and it felt like a Muay Thai class but the techniques and general idea was different

I was suprised cause when he said Karate I instantly thought “larping”

he did point sparring and non point sparring…hitting eatch other pretty hard
we spared and he did a good job.

please dont underestimate Karate pplz!

It is sadly true that many Karate instruction out (expecialy in the U.S)
is abunch of larping. Kyokushin schools with the less larp
go jyu ryu and shotokan grab the most larp attention I see

The title of this thread makes me think this is a deliberate troll job whereby many took the bait.
