Sifu must be a judoka :tongue6:
If your throwing kicks at a grappler, be the better grappler.
Your learning THX, your learning…
Bah, if the grappler takes a shot in, just turn that highkick into an axe kick and send him to the morgue.
Yeah, learning to speak simply enough for you to understand.
Cro Cop usually beat the shit out of the so called grapplers he faces, and often with a high kick, yet he’s far from being the best grappler out there. Probably because it’s Cro Cop, but I’m sure any decent kickboxer/thai boxer (not the kind of “fat” kickboxers like Mark Hunt) who trained a bit in wrestling and BJJ wouldn’t have a hard time to pull out a high kick in a MMA match. If you’ve got a good speed and don’t telegraph it, it’s pretty hard to block a high kick with MMA gloves and the MMA-adapted guard, I think.
Cro Cop has arguably the best sprawl in MMA. Watch his fight with Mark Coleman for a prime example of this.
I think you’d have to have some seriously uncommited (read: weakass) kicks to pull that off.
You don’t seriously think I am advocating an axe kick as the anti-grapple, do you?
well it DOES say MDK in your style field
Since I can only assume MDK is Moo Duk Kwon or some shit and I have no idea what kind of crazy shit they teach I have no way of knowing.
no no no, THIS is MDK
Being a giant space monster with lasers might actually work.
Is that a reference to the game, M(urder)D(eath)K(ill)?
But no… while we do learn axe kicks, and a few of my more flexible and stick-like friends can turn a high side kick into an axe kick (shift the hips, and push with the flexors,) I am by no means advocating an axe kick to take out a shot. I will, however, advocate uncommitted high kicks, because I don’t use them and I do like the way my face looks.
Edit: And yes, you are correct as to what my stylish acronym stands for.
:wcacjack :5yeah:
I’ve watched them all fool.
Isn’t MDK the guy in the right with the head shaped like one of those silly things that Goths wear on their fingers?
People who dont think throwing high kicks works in MMA are fucking dumbasses and seriously need to watch more MMA, or take a look at my avatar…
I asked someone who is fairly experienced at TKD to show me the mechanics of a basic TKD kick, just out of morbid curiosity. He kicks me in the face(no, not demonstrates a kick to the face, kicks me in the face). Bent my damn glasses. Later I asked him to attack me with anything, this time I’m in full guard. He steps for the kick, I step in and punch him to the face.
Do high kicks work? Maybe. It worked on me when I wasn’t expecting it, since the bastard was just supposed to demonstrate how it worked. When I was on guard and he went for a kick, I managed to get in on him. So I guess it just kinda depends. If you can kick that high, and quickly, it might just work if its something that’s practiced a lot, like in TKD. That’s my $.02 as a noob.

The first is a set up based on combos and getting the guy to drop his defense. The second is a real fast sneaky kick, looks like he’s pretty close to the guy and just flips a roundhouse in quickly to end it.
And here’s a blurry look at some Andy Hug fights. Hug was a Kyokushin master and K1 champ. Note the spinning back fist at 22 seconds in.
