Browsing these forums, i’ve noticed a pattern: Wing Chun gets badmouthed a lot. Now I don’t know why. Along with Hung Ga and Chow Lei Fut, Wing Chun is one of the most popular martial arts in southern China. Is there any particular reason why it gets badmouthed so much on these boards? Is something wrong with the style itself, or is there just a lot of bullshido attached to the style?
You’ve browsed the forums and noticed a pattern of Wing Chun bashing yet you don’t know why?
This is the stupidest thread ever.
Well not in-depth mind you >.> But people seem to hold a low opinion of Wing Chun. Doing a bit of research into it, it just seems like any other Southern Chinese style to me. I’m from Saskatchewan all right? We farmers are not exactly quick-witted
Another -ing -un thread. Groan.
Out of all the thousands of Western practitioners of -ing -un, there are two that can actually fight and one of them, Southpaw, posts here.
Synopsis: looks cool, doesn’t work.

There are literally thousands more. Next time, try using the search function before you start a new thread.
Lack of fighting, lack of pressure testing, complete focus on non-martial training.
Claims that you should strengthen your tendons and ligaments to make you fast and muscles slow you down.
Focus on a “trapping” range, which is so transient, you never have time to keep the range, it’s like making a car and focusing on how the steering wheel looks and never looking at the engine.
No aliveness.
Forms approach to learning.
Over emphasis on “sensitivity” training, which is pointless.
MOST IMPORTANTLY
Failure to realize that chain punching is shitty arm punches, and their choice in fighting stance gives them no chance to use their hips for power.
It’s over all, a shitty martial art, and everything you don’t want to train, if you want to learn to fight.
Hmm, I see your points. If it really is that shitty than badmouthing it makes perfect sense.
Wanna know what’s waaay better than _ing _un?
Many of us are ex Wing Chun people.
The main issues i have with the art (this applies to all lineages):
Lack of sparring & Alive training.
All the weight on the back leg.
Lack of sparring & Alive training.
Chin Up in the air.
Lack of sparring & Alive training.
Chainpunches.
and…
LACK OF SPARRING & ALIVE TRAINING!!
Lack of pressure testing,
Artificial training scenarios,
Ridiculous responses by the “attacker”,
Passive acceptance of strikes by the opponent.
Just remember it as LARP.
So you saw a bunch of threads bashing Wing Chun and instead of reading them you started a new thread to ask what those threads say?
