Wado Kai?

its the society for the way of peace.
So, NO GOOD can ever come of this.

God Dammit! Thanks for ruining my day!

After Ohtsuka’s (the style founder) death, his son Jiro took over the organization and some high ranking members left and formed a new one.

Although in japanese ryu means lineage/style and kai means meeting point/association, in terms of Wado Karate, it’s just 2 different organizations (Wado-Ryu Renmei and Wado-Kai).

Also, as someone correctly pointed out, Roy Suenaka’s aikido association is named Wadokai, which means “where people meet/organization for peace”. But there’s no relation to Ohtsuka’s karate style.

About Wado - Ohtsuka was a master of Yoshin-Ryu Jujutsu when he met Funakoshi. Later, he combined techniques from both to create Wado, which is a very fast, reflex-based style with lots of body shifts (tai sabaki), evasion and locks. Most Wado schools also like heavy sparring.

I am soon to be a black belt in wao-ryu here in Asia so if you got any question regarding this style give me a private message.

I actually have a BB in Wado-Kai. And yet I don’t really know anything about it. Here’s why:

Though my BB certificate says Wado-Kai on it, has Shintani’s signature and a printing of Otsuka’s signature, the karate I learned is basically totally unrelated to Otsuka’s karate. The reason is that the organization I got my BB in associated itself with Shintani’s Wado-Kai organization for political reasons. From what I’ve been told we basically did Shito-Ryu but called it Wado-Kai.

Wado-Kia is just a watered down Wado-ryu…
