Vids or it Didn't Happen #4

I don’t like this shit.

Dude, use something other than gradient backgrounds and vector lineart.

I mean damn.

Ummm…?

Are you done yet?

Nice try…

Experiment-over time.

Just stop it now and we’ll pretend none of this happened, yeah?

To be honest, these are never even slightly funny.

This one has veered off course altogether. Write about stuff that hasn’t been discussed 8 billion times already.

Still missing a punch line. From wikipedia… “Punch lines generally derive their humor from being unexpected.” That wasn’t new, oddball or unexpected, so unfortunately it wasn’t that funny either.

It would have been better if the slapping had actually had a delayed killing effect on the target killing him mid-sentence while ridiculing the chunner. Or anything else, really.

Just to end this in a positive note: I like the simplified style of your comic.

It would have been better if the black guy (whom I assume is Osiris) died mid sentence.
I still liked it.

You know, there is more than one black guy in the world…

There is the other one. Asia.

when did Phrost shave off his goatee?

This is like Family Circus for Bullshido.

holds up hand

I like your work, buddy.

Where is it? Why can’t I see it?

yeaahhh…

Let me give my advice, for what it’s worth.

Surprise us! Be original, witty! Try a one-panel comic, i.e. a panel portraying a situation, and a caption revealing new information about the situation that makes it absurd. Here’s an example…

Comic: A classrom, with a man in a labcoat and a stethoscope teaching the class. The man has a speech bubble that reads as follows: “If you make the incision a quarter of a centimeter below, you will lacerate the femoral artery causing severe damage to the leg…”

Caption: As I listened to the lecture, I quietly wondered who gave Phil Elmore the labcoat.

You’ve gotta be surprising. So far, these comics look more like propoganda posters than comics. A bunch of people agreeing with each other = not funny. Making fun of stupid people using comic devices like timing, satire and surprise = very funny.

Hes black? Holy shit. The me calling him “benaer” has no effect? Damn.

No, I assumed that the comic was derived from O’s encounter with JFS. What the fuck do I know.

This, from a technical view point, is slightly better. The reason this didn’t incite hysteria is for two reasons:

  1. Predictability

  2. No twist or punchline.

From the get go, the reader is expecting the wing chun guy to fail horribly. Panel 3, as I see it, is missing the twist. Panel 4 could’ve been the same, but without the twist, it flops.

What I would’ve done is keep panel 1 and 2 the same. Then in panel three, I would have them both standing there doing nothing. Panel four would be “Did it hurt?”, then black guy would say something comical.

Webcomics are hard to make, and if you use a simplistic style of art, it means you have to be twice as funny. Making simple style art comics is hard as hell.
