Cop deflects the angle of the bad guy’s firearm while simultaneously drawing his own service pistol and shooting the suspect 3 times,
and then, despite the adrenaline factor, managed to restrain himself from shooting the other person who then came running towards the cop immediately following the shooting.
Interesting. It looks like the first shot was very wide (probably in the dirt, somewhere not far), in fact I thought the first report was the perp getting a round off. Stories seem to confirm that the cop sent all three shots, though. Perp lived. Turns out he was already wanted for armed robbery.
Breaking this down further. Cop already had indexed his weapon when he gave the verbal to show hands. At the same time, he moved into a full Weaver stance, reducing his profile and giving room to present his weapon. This also gave him a solid footing for blocking perp’s draw, which he did. All three shots were single-handed, he didn’t get a grip on the weapon with his weak hand until it was all over. It’s a neat piece of teaching moment. Well executed, indeed.
