The Worst Techniques I've Ever Been Taught

They taught you how to leave people in pools of blood in the Corps? SWEET
…wait, is this with or without a firearm?

What IS the purpose of a Crescent kick anyway? What exactly did you connect with?

both.

I always thought you hit with side of the foot (ridge/knife foot) or with the lower leg; if it’s the ankle, that sucks.

Stop talking like that.

How brave and mighty of you slapping and flailing like a bitch online.

slaps xarlock
You will never get in range in order to throw a hammer fist. And even if, we only use X blocks for upward kicks to the groin and stomach area.

I made my post based on the dozen or so people that had claimed to have been taught this technique in TKD. If you would like to slap me, please feel free to do so. Come to Tulsa, OK, and I will give you my address, or we can meet in the location of your choosing anywhere in the city, and I will happily let you slap me. I am after all just a noob that knows nothing, and you are a big brave internet guy, and you should have no trouble beating me up, and slapping me around. Go brave guy! You are my hero!

Simmer down xarlock, it’s all good. Remember your in F4n4n’s house.

xarlock, you fail at the internet but it is all good, lurk a little and you may get the entire meaning of my post, I say you only got 20%

^^^What f4n4n said.

But then again, maybe it wouldn’t be bad to have a REAL gong sau after your bachelors party in Holland, eh?

On video, of course.

I will, when my plans for New York work out (I finally get an apartment or room) I will meet up with the NY guys like Sambo Steve, Luy1 etc. And I will spar with them, at the end of my 3 months there, in order to avoid injury before my BJJ training, afterwards I don’t care so much. And I will meet up with Lebell again when I come back, so there are a few nice “match ups” in the making. I know there are a few beatings waiting for me (Lebells striking looks nice and what I have seen from Steve and Luy so far also indicates some great fun)

(I am about to get myself a “I travel the world to train and spar” tag :hello2:)

Come to michigan, i’ll show you some “great fun”

I didn’t mean that as you are all going to take it. I meant i would beat him up :stuck_out_tongue:

Ok, no one fucking quote this, change that to “beat him off” and put “fixed”.

How about:

Haha, he said “come”…

Don’t get me wrong on this one mouse, I know there is no video of me fighting (yet) but I have seen your “brawl” (the mobile phone cam debacle) and I would say you are a little outclassed at the stand up.

ahem.

Bjj

most effective martial art

etc, etc

:stuck_out_tongue:

you know i’m not being serious, right? I mean, if you came to MI, it’d be rad, and we’d go chill around town and probably spar, but i’m not gonna be like OMG ITS T3h F4n4l. gong sau tiem plox?

Holy God.

That is NOT isshinryu.

Again.

The first post is NOT isshinryu. The ONLY technique among all those listed that I EVER heard in my 30+ years in the style was the wansu throw…and that wasn’t explained properly (you don’t pick the dude up over your head, you grab the belt or groin, pull the weight forward while pushing back with the top hand at the throat or lapel, simple unbalance technique, and the over the head motion is just some junk tossed in to look fancy IMHO).

Sorry you went through all that. Jeeeesus.

Maybe you don’t have the real isshinryu?

I started in Judo. Now my class is Judo+BJJ+Wrestling. Everything I’ve ever learned has been a useful and fairly efficient technique. :ohyeah:

I will probably however be stopping by a class which teaches “Ying-Yang Kung Fu” and “Bujinkan Ninjitsu”, so I should have plenty soon.

If the typo is theirs and not yours, they deserve a very bad case of mycosis spreading in their gym…

Ha. That’s what the logo says. I’ll scan a copy of the flyer if I stop back by their…it’s not even a gym or dojo, they meet in the racquetball room of the local fitness center.
The more I talk about this place the more I think my $5 would be better spent on a (http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb3/Umuumina/FiveDollarFootLong.jpg)

The flyer says “great for MMA”. One of the BB’s is supposed to stop by our MMA club tonight. If it’s not the 17 year old (minors have to have their parents sign the waiver form) I’m sure footage of him working in with us will make it up here somewhere.

Some things I saw them teaching when I sat in on a class:
-Opponent places both hands on your shoulders from behind (!?!), grab both hands and kick backwards
-Opponent places both hands on shoulders from front, student pushes elbows up, then punches in chest. This looked similar to an escape from the thai clench we worked in my class, just…wrong… and with striking instead of throwing…
-Block a downwards shin kick to the thigh by dropping your arm (mentioned elsewhere in the thread)
I did that on accident once. My arm was fucked up.

During…what they called sparring one instructor started standing sideways and fighting with one arm. I’ve only seen this in the Matrix. Something about giving up the half man screams “kani-basami” to me.

“Maybe you don’t have the real isshinryu?”

Yah. A joke, I know…but this crap disturbs me.

Now when I fought Radumz way back in the day, I can tell you he NEVER tried to punch my foot. He was fast, hit hard…and the reason I remember fighting him was that I took a side kick to the throat that sent me ass over teakettles onto the tile floor of the dojo, and folks were amazed I wasn’t badly hurt. I was only a brown belt at the time, and he was a black belt…but he kicked my ass.

I have heard proponents who say kata is the only way to go; I don’t agree with them. I used to believe sparring was the only way to go…I don’t believe that anymore either. As I have suffered a couple pretty bad injuries through the years, and have gotten older…well, I am not as fast, strong or quick to recover from injuries as I used to be. Ergo, fighting…which I LOVE…is something that just has to take a back seat, and I know one day will be gone forever. Kata, though, I can do as long as I live. Drills? Yeah, I can do drills…but I find them utterly boring. For students that ARE able to fight, though…and especially who WANT to fight…it is terrible not to let them go out there and blast away at each other. Hey, students I fight now will hit me…no big deal, I am almost fifty years old, and no Great Master…if you don’t have ego, it isn’t a problem.

I love isshinryu. I got a lot out of the system, learned a lot and it even has saved my butt once in a while over the last 34 years. I am ticked off when I see people make claims about isshinryu that are bullshit. I view the role of a martial arts instructor as a moral obligation…if you don’t teach what you know to your student, or if what you are teaching is useless, and that student goes out and gets hurt or killed…then the instructor is at least partially to blame. What went on in that dojo…assuming the OP is truthful…is wrong.
