SPENCER PRATT - Douchebag of the Month, June 2009

Many of us have unfortunately heard of Spencer Pratt and his Barbi wife Heidi Montag Pratt. They first appeared like a bad fungus on MTV’s “reality” soap opera “The Hills” and then appeared for one week on NBC’s “I’m a Celebrity get me out of here.” Where they behaved erratically and like dicks.

But in the jungle, on “I’m a moron, pay attention to me!” Spencer had this gem to say

Yup, Spencer claims that he has a black belt in Brazilian Jujitsu (BJJ)

The problem is that Spencer only has a purple belt in BJJ. Bullshido.net member Ka-Bar managed to reach his teacher Wander Braga through the staff at one of the schools that Mr. Braga teaches at, and Braga confirms he awarded a purple belt to Spencer, but nothing more. (See posts 44 and 49)

Similarly when Samuel Browning contacted Rickson Gracie’s school and spoke to Richardo Rosa, Rosa said that the last time Spencer had come to train at their school he was wearing a purple belt and not rolling anywhere near the level expected of a BJJ Black Belt. (see post 42)

Samuel Browning did leave a message for Spencer on his cell phone which was not surprisingly not returned, so we do not have his comment on his douchtastic behavior.

Since Spencer is not starting his own BJJ school, we don’t think that the public is being defrauded, but he’s certainly lying on TV about his accomplishments in our world, something he knows enough not to do when he’s actually at a real BJJ school. Because of Spencer’s out of control douchbaggery, he’s also giving our sport additional bad publicity which it does not need.

So here’s to you, Spencer, Bullshido.net’s douchebag of the month. Hey, we know you’re special, how about two months?

Nothing postmodern about it, unfortunately. Take a look at Leo Braudy’s “The Frenzy of Renown: Fame and Its History”: there have been talentless, attention-grabbing turds around since the dawn of time.

It was Ka-Bar who actually asked the question to his instructor through a staff member at a school he teaches at. Could it be inaccurate? Possibly, however even risking an error in Spenser’s favor he still looks like a douche.

I don’t know the book, so maybe it says what I’m about to say, which is that we don’t remember the minor celebrities of the past because they were minor. Today’s minor celebrities seem like a new phenomenon only because we know about them and not about their earlier parallels.
