Im trying to perform high leg kicks to the head, but just cant, farthest i can reach is just above the waist.
Does anyone have any stretches or techniques for me to try to work on this.
Just above the waist? You’ve got a lot of work ahead of you.
I stretch my hamstrings primarily with this. It’s good because it also loosens up your inner thighs and, if you flex your foot back, even your calves a bit. You can do double leg, but single leg is easier on my back, so I do that one mostly. Double leg is cool-down for me.
Side straddles work wonders for kick flexibility, but go easy at first, and make sure you have good form with these.
Two things to keep in mind:
- ALWAYS WARM UP PROPERLY! if you don’t, your strength, speed, and flexibility will suffer, and you will get less out of each training session, all for saving a few minutes on warming up. there are a million posts on the subject here and elsewhere.
- when warming up, dynamic stretches are best. static stretches are a good cool down or for a purely stretching session.
This is really just a placeholder for some superpost by El Macho, because he’s sort of a guru when it comes to this, but it’s probably worth reading, ya know?
say what now
I have heard some commentators on rubbish MMA shows using ‘leg kick’ as though ‘leg’ referred to the weapon rather than the target. Ppl iz knot smartz.
ive been doing some simple stretches for a month, like inner thigh stretches, hamstring stretches, and that stretch you showed, but hasnt helped much. Ill try some side straddles, but any other stretches would help alot.
You know how when you kick, it doesn’t go up high where you want it? Kick more.
Have you considered a hand kick? Leg kicks are not that great, despite of what we see in Ong Bak.
That’s a sign that God doesn’t want you to learn high kicks over the internet, from a book or from a movie.
I have a perfect technique for you. It’s called “learning from a qualified Martial Arts instructor.”

Sorry dude, but I’m not going to have you post questions regarding how to do a (supposedly) martial arts move in the “Physical Training and Health forums” if you are not training under a qualified instructor. In the meantime, this goes off to trollshido.
This is not a comedy forum, nor a place for entertaining school break fantasies. Feel free to create new threads where you can ask more intelligent, serious, general questions.
wow, you guys are cool, i just wanted some stretches i could use, and you think im trolling, get serious, im asking a simple question.
You already got serious, useful answers:

As for why I moved your thread, well, you are not training anywhere, and you are trying to perform high kicks without any instructions. To me, that’s wasting time at best, and asking for a groin pull or a similar injury at worse. Plus I don’t want the PT/Health forum to fill up with clutter from kids that just want to entertain themselves.
Now, if you are really, really serious, and you are not just fucking around, then just follow up the three serious responses you got (which are listed a few lines above) as well as this post which I made a while ago on stretching and injury prevention:

yeah, i say the thing you posted about stretching the hips, glutes, and something, it was really helpful.
Also, can some tell me the difference between a hand a leg kick, im not being funny, i really dont no the difference.
A hand kick is done with the hand. A leg kick is done with the leg. That’s about it.
