Looking at your version of the link, I see a period in the middle of the word “youtube”. The phrase “.com” isn’t present either.
I think you somehow rearranged some things and omitted others when you copied and pasted.
Here’s the easiest way to embed a video on BS.
Go to the Advanced menu instead of the “Quick reply” one when composing a post. Find the video icon in the menu above the text box (it looks like a strip of film), click on it and then paste the entire youtube address into the address bar of the pop up menu. Hit ok and there you go.
Thank you.
I was actually going to the advanced menu, but I’m doing it from my iPhone instead of my PC. I don’t know if the mobile links are different than the PC ones
This was the first tournament I participated in since 2010.
It was Jan 26th 2013
It was a no time limit, submission only 175 lbs and up
The screen will adjust in like 5 seconds
Match 1
Match 2
Nice man! That was a big dude in the 2nd vid (match 2)…
Thank you. The guy told me he weighed around 225. I weighed in at 195.
I’m uploading the match in the semi-finals that i lost to a guy who told me he weighed a little under 250.
This guy had a first round bye, then finished his first opponent in a little over a minute with a guillotine. So i was trying to avoid letting him get my head at all costs.
Here is the finals of the “Advanced Gi Division” at the same tournament.
For whatever reason the black and brown belts that were there did only the no gi, which is a shame. I would have liked to fight the guy I lost to in a gi. In all honesty I wanted to fight him again no gi 60 seconds after our match finished. I guess that’s what happens when you gas out
For those sub only matches, were they put in experience level or just weight class?
Oh man, beautiful sweep in the match 2 sub only at 1.50, hehe.
I really like the way you move around your opponents using your hand placements really well. I feel like I’m learning a lot from watching you move like this.
6.40 in the match 3 sub only, was the guy trying to lock in some weird kneebar? Damn, sneaky calfslicer he put on in the end there.
Thanks for uploading, man.
Props for the Videos/Fights. You are doing great.
Love the format (wish they would do something like that around here).
A few things I have noticed:
- you seem to avoid under hooks/head control during top half guard (I guess this is because you like to attack the arms)
- You have that triangle in the one fight, hook your shin (like eddy bravo does it, under not over the shin) step on his hip and get the angle to finish him, set up and all was lovely you just bailed on the sub
- in the first fight, you couldn’t get the RNC because you didn’t get your arm under his chin… there are two/three ways (one is not super ‘clean’ but works)
- snake your hand (you get in behind their ear on the side of your choking arm and slide it under their jaw)
- opening the bear bottle (you get your for arm parallel to your chest, on their jaw, thumb pointing to you. Then you turn the thumb/arm down a notch an try to enter with the inside blade of your forearm under his chin, you turn the thumb upwards a bit to lift his chin… rinse and repeat until you are under his chin)
- This is a bit shunned up on but it works. It requires good hooks and a solid level of back control! Take your free hand and take the blade of your arm/back of your thumb and press it against the guys base of the nose (put it on his upper lip, then turn 90 degrees up that you are forcing it into the tiny thin bone of his nose/base of the nose.) Most guys will lift their chin… you snake in your other arm for the choke!
- you have nice body pressure but at times your ass is too high, gives them the chance to slip their shin/knee in

The sub only matches were “expert” matches. Idk everyone’s experience. The guy I lost to told me he had trained for a little over 10 years.
Thank you for the kind words.
The guy I lost to kept going for different leg attacks… I feel silly for getting caught in what I got caught in. But live and learn. I’m a professional BJJ player, but an armature Bjj competitor. I’ve only competed a hand full of times. The biggest tournament I’ve competed at was the no gi pan ams as a purple belt 2 years ago. I got silver.

Thanks for the kinds words.
My primary style is to avoid side control/half guard, and work from some version of knee on belly. I find in more conducive for an armbar-centric game.
Though since those tournaments I’ve been working hard to improve my choke game. And it’s forced me to use a lot more side control and half guard.
I’m assuming you are referring to the second fight when you mention me bailing on the triangle. I can promise you the guy was really big and pressing down on my chest/hips with soo much force it was crazy. I could barely keep my ankles crossed… i couldn’t open up at all to move. I just didn’t have it.
I 100% agree I need to work my entire choke game. And have been since that day. But i appreciate the advice as I don’t think I can get enough, at least not when it comes to my crappy choke game.
Though I’m not sure when someone was slipping their shin/knee in because my ass was too high. Can you please point it out to me?
Thanks again for everything
As for people putting on the pressure while you are working on the triangle, shoulder walk! Or use the set up to sweep them and finish from top.
The hip too high,
Fist vid@0:45
Second Vid@3:18 (but he goes turtle) @5:29 (drop hips or bring the knee in)
Third Vid@2:00
The other times it is more because you like to not play under hooks in half guard and well, there you got them under control mostly by threat of kimura/armbar.
hmm… i don’t know if i’m watching the right videos or not but i think you are referring to the no gi videos. And if you are i would have to respectfully disagree. I do not feel any of the of the transitions are a bi-product of my hips being too high. I play with high hips. I really do not use my hip placement to control my opponent’s movement. I use my hands and knees to check and move. When you have a KOB based top game, your hips are going to be high.
Honestly, i usually play with my hips much, much higher. I guess it is a somewhat unorthodox, but it works for me.

franginho, no disrespect, but what level are you in BJJ? Your comments make sense, but come across as a lower belt giving advice as they are VERY basic items that are answers to beginner issues with chokes etc, not a personalised or stylised game of a purple belt and up.
In RT’s videos he uses his hands/arms to bridge contact and control his opponent on their hips, shoulders, body, instead of straight body pressure, which allows him to move much faster around the opponent than a body-pressure game would, this appears heavily as part of his style leading into his chin strap guillotine and kimura/armbar setups, and I can see how it’s beneficial and congratulated him on the awesome hand positioning/pressure and movement.
That stacking causing the bailing of the triangle, the position of his opponent and the size, you would be crazy to try and shoulder walk back and try and retain that sub that would not come on at the angle…you would only get your ribs/back/neck hurt like that if he locks hands and pressures all the way down, not worth it due to the risky angle/pressure.
hmm… i don’t know if i’m watching the right videos or not but i think you are referring to the no gi videos.
Yes, I was talking about the three no gi videos.

If it works for you, then that is all you need to know.
I can’t play like that because I tend to get sweeped/put back into guard with my hips high (I am tall an skinny) thus I play low.
@ Mr. Miyagi,
Sorry, but if he fails to get the choke, what you want me to post? Sure I could also talk about how to maybe trap one of the arms from back control to then make the choke happen, but I identified a simple issue (getting under the chin) and gave a few ideas on how he could work on that. The best solutions are simple, basic and thus high percentage.
As for my rank, I hope I will get my purple by the end of the year, so he is a bit ahead in rank, it doesn’t make my point invalid though.
For the high hips, as mentioned, that is a question of how you like to roll. Let me quote myself
you seem to avoid under hooks/head control during top half guard (I guess this is because you like to attack the arms)
and
you have nice body pressure but at times your ass is too high
I said, he controls the guy but in a different way because his game is different. Now you are going to say I should give him specific advise to his style…
I think that if he would try to play low in addition and isolate that arm from half or side control he could get additional sub options.
For the Triangle,
I disagree, mainly because I get triangles against way larger guys all the time and that is exactly what they do. Shoulder walking will not save you, it is to get you a little bit of space/time to grab that shin, step on that hip and get that angle you are talking about. I had a video (I have to check if I still have or it went away together with my dead hard drive, if I find it I will post it) where my old Prof. stacks me to the point of my knee being next to my ear and I keep that triangle locked, he then proceeded to collar choke me because he couldn’t stack me any further.
Is everybody as flexible, no. Is there the possibility of getting smashed, yes. Once more, create that space to angle by taking of a bit of that pressure.
Just think about it, what is your best triangle defense? Mine is posture! (Yes there are other defenses, but they put you in the risk of sweeps and other subs on the way out.) If the guy stacks you, he is working himself into the sub… not out.
