Pursuant to the state’s open records law, Ohio Rev. Code Ann. sec. 149.43 to 149.44, I am requesting publicly available personnel records for Ronald H. Marek, DOB 5/1/1964, SSN 279-74-7377, who claims service in the City of Parma Police Department.

I request a complete and thorough search of all filing systems and locations for all records maintained by your agency pertaining to and/or captioned personnel records including, the entire contents without limitation files and documents captioned, or whose captions include but are not limited to: training records, performance evaluations, awards and decorations, unit assignments, for the purposes of providing under the Open Records Act request: as much as possible of the public information that can be released under the Ohio Open Records Act on the above-named individual needed for verifying possibly fraudulent claims of: service in the City of Parma Police Department from sometime after 1984 to 1989; claims of retirement; claims of assignment to undercover narcotics detective duty and DUI enforcement duty; claims of having “one of the highest narcotics and DUI arrest and conviction rate [sic]”.

Please provide minimally: Time in the police department, detailed duty assignments with dates and units served with, awards and decorations along with the text of any accompanying citations; verification or denial of retirement, along with a note about the cause for retirement; and any records of disciplinary actions taken against the above-named individual.

Summary:

• Marek's claim that he "worked as an Undercover Narcotics Detective and a DUI enforcement officer" is an exaggeration; he never made detective.
• There is no record of the reason for his resignation, but according to a handwritten note in the records, it was probably on good terms.
• In that handwritten note, there is a reference to a Joel Hodgell and a phone number of 206-362-2166, with a notation that this is about a Seattle lawsuit. It might be worth emailing him at [email]joelhodgell@netzero.net[/email] to see what that was about.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy records Marek as having gone through the standard local police training course they give, and are checking on the claims about his class standing.
