OK let me talk about the deep meaning of katas. And please don’t think that because I am a newbie I am stupid. If someone wants to get to know me or earn a deeper understanding of my principles, don’t hesitate to ask.

Katas are generally useless for training to actually fight. You can never see whether the technique is right, and it is more for show than anything else. If you use a rehearsed pattern in your fight, your opponent will beat you with ease. Many of the stances and flowing movements of a kata are generally impossible to use in a fight. To fight an opponent is to fight a human being , each with their separate creative minds. I’m not saying to go wild like a maniac, but don’t impose barriers on yourself. Instead of saying that one art is better than the other, why not have no art at all? To impose a fighting system that works in all situations is as hard as creating a robot with ALL the capabilities of a human being. Also, no person is the same.

To train, use individual techniques and constantly create combinations. The best way to train is on a partner, with no intention of harm. For all those people who want to submit argument about the feasibility of forms, submit it in my thread about katas. Just search my username. If you are a teacher that over-stresses katas, a kid that failed them might just be able to kick your a**. I learned this philosophy from Bruce Lee (my favorite martial artist).
