No, but I do live in New Jersey, where I have heard g-words shouting “The guidos are here, party time!” Why do they do that? Who the hell knows?
And I live in Chicago. I’ve heard some half drunk young men shouting “we niggas are da shit.” I’ve had neighbors rap about “being niggas” at 3 am in the parking lot. Explain the difference.

So? That’s not the same as saying, “Call me Guido.”
…no. They call themselves guidos, so people call them it too.
War Wheel, have you ever encountered the population we’re talking about here?
Like I said, I used to live… HERE, THEN
Now granted, the North End in the 80’s is not the Jersey shore in 2010, but I guess you could say I lived with their parents.
If you ask me, all that is going on here is that Latin machismo is out of fashion. That’s it. It’s an argument over what defines manliness. What was once considered manly YouTube- Saturday Night Fever - Funny Scenes
is now considered a joke outside of certain communities.
So is Chuck Norris. So is Captain Kirk.
Now maybe I’m old fashioned, but I tend to think that either of those two would triangle or disintegrate the shit out of any number of “modern men”. If Judo Gene Lebell were famous in the 70’s or 80’s, he would be mocked too, and he’s so tough they named the Judo gene after him.
This is a war over who is and who is not a Man. IMO a similar dynamic is driving many from the culture of the West into the arms of the global Jihad. But I digress.
Okay. Have you ever seen ‘Jersey Shore’? Stuff like that actually happens. Not only does it actually happen, it happens a lot.
I am not saying I would do it, but if I ever encountered an African-American who introduced himself to me as an n-word and was then called it, if he got angry, he would be a hypocrite.

Did you change your stance, or did I simply misunderstand your initial stand point? Entirely possible.
Again, comparing a name to an ethnic slang is like comparing a bb pellet to a bullet. One hurts a lot more than the other.
Okay, fine. Regardless of myname, the vast majority of my background is Native American and Puerto Rican-an eighth and a quarter respectively. I have been called ‘red man’ and ‘spic’ unprovoked (how they could honestly tell is beyond me) and yes, it is upsetting, because I did not tell those people to call me that.
And again, I realize this is not an entirely black and white issue (no pun intended,) but there do exist major double standards which we need to take a much closer look at before we say one type of slang is fine, while another is taboo.
Also, fuck “reality tv” with a rusty chainsaw.
I agree. Fuck reality tv. However, if I went around saying ‘I am a spic’ and people called me that, no, I would not be upset. I do not do that, however, because I find the word ‘spic’ offensive. As such, I make sure to avoid situations where people would get the impression that it is okay to call me as such. If you have such a problem with these people being called ‘g-words’ or ‘n-words’, get mad at the people broadcasting the notion it is fine to be called these things.
That show is equivalent to parking a camera crew inside a Manchester UK Traveler’s campsite, and the adding a laugh track to the footage. You have discovered a tiny pocket of divergence from the norm in the mating culture, and you can’t believe it is actually real.
At the end of the day Jwoww is going home with someone who looks and acts like the Situation. You can practice your Uchi Mata and Te Tud all day but all you’re going to end up probing tonight is the ARP cache. Of course you can protect your ego by dismissing her as a Guido skank, but deep down you’re wondering why she thinks you’re a useless nerd.

By percentage, yes. 1/4 is the largest of any single background I have. Would you like to yell at my ancestors for breeding outside of their countries? I wouldn’t mind, it gets tiresome explaining what I am.

You mean “plurality” not “vast majority.” Vast majority==well over 50 percent.
Which really is a lot of what this thread is. I did not even know ‘guido’ was a racial Italian term, and if I did, I would not have used it. I’ll bow out, admit I am an idiot and wrong, and end this massive derail.
Not that you’re wrong, it’s just that there are (or were) plenty of others in Philly and Boston for example. Once a neighborhood is 90% Italian and 10% Jewish, that is about as far as it can go. Anything more than that and the books don’t get balanced
Edit: Do you think Long Island Jews of the Fran Fine variety are “Guidos” or is the difference too much for that?
Edit Edit: IMO Guido bashing on MTV has a long and rich tradition beginning (ironically) in
If you were reading the thread you would know that I grew up around this culture.
How anyone can imagine that something that was such an integral part of the eastern half of the country a SINGLE GENERATION AGO could possibly be pure fiction boggles what is left of my mind.
