Robbery turns violent - for robber
Unmasked thief takes to his heels
Police hope video will ID him

A hooded, knife-wielding teen got more than he bargained for last night when the 60-year old woman he tried to rob at an east-end ATM unleashed a barrage of fists that left the would-be thief dazed and unmasked.

The victim, who was attending a CIBC ATM machine at Victoria Park Ave. and Sheppard Ave. E. at about 9:30 p.m., was grabbed from behind. Her attacker brandished an 8-inch butcher knife.

But the victim quickly turned into the aggressor, according to police. She fought back so fiercely that she ripped the bandana off the attacker’s face before falling to the floor. Her attacker fled. The woman received only minor injuries.

Now, either the woman or a security video may reveal who the attacker was.

“He’s a true coward,” an area resident told 680 News this morning, adding that a person of a certain age “should be shown a certain amount of respect.”

The suspect is described as 17 to 18 years old, about 5-foot-6 with a medium build and weighing 140 to 150 pounds. He has brown eyes and short brown hair. He was clean shaven and spoke with a European accent.

He was wearing a dark coloured jacket, blue and white plaid shirt, brown cotton pants, and had his face covered with a white bandana.
