Bane. Probably the best Batman character ever, with no competition except for Ras Al Ghul.
Vengeance of Bane I & II definitively define the chracater, but then DC decide “Damn. This guy is too good.” And proceed to turn Bane into an utter joke, and write comics where he acts COMPLETELY contrary to the establishment of the charcater.
A bit like if Captain America started smoking crack and pimping hoes.
One of the things most people seemed to forget in the Batman VS Captain America thread was that it all depends on the writer.
Animal Man was an excellent example of this. In his own comic he totally rips it up. In JLA he did, well, nothing. Ever.
Doctor Doom 2099 started off really well, until Warren Ellis took over then Doom acted like a total tool, all the good characters got writeen off, because Warren Ellis is an idiot. Much like Garth Ennis writing The Demon, the character was basically ruined.
So when talking about Batman Vs Captain America or whatever, and quoting examples by crap writers, it’s a bit spurious. Sure Captain America got kicked in the balls by a girl, but let’s be serious. Any fighter worth his salt works out how to protect his nuts very early.
I can write a book where Ashida Kim kicks all your arses and unites the martial arts world under the Black Dragon banner, but most people will think it’s retarded. Unless they truly develop comedy as an effective fighting form…in which case, Ashida Kim WILL whip your butts, as he’s a lot funnier than you lot.
Tony Stark pimps the hoes. The rest of them just hang around and do nothing really except get tied up with chains (like Cap does) or complain or have the Red Falcon do their laundry.

I’ve been here longer and I’ve made 3. One of which was setting up a throwdown. One of which was posing a legitimate question about bullshido in the martial arts. One of which was an interesting find of a terrible show about bullshidoka on MTV2. 0 of which were dumb and pointless attention getting, post whoring piles of crap. Learn to be a better forum goer.

As for Bane’s planning, you’re just pissed that he outwitted Batman, beat the crap out of all of Batman’s major foes without even trying hard and totally wiped the floor with Batman WITHOUT having had billions to spend on training and equipment. Besides which, Bane gets off the juice just before they decided to ruin the character. Vengeance of Bane II. Awesome book.

Those are extremely powerful BAD guys. Definitely worthy of the common man’s fear, not respect. I would respect the beings powerful enough, and honorable enough, to kick their evil asses.
