NYC pistol buying advice (non-carry permit)
yeah she’s not going to get interested any time soon, i am purely focused on me, and was thinking i could get a better gun for less money (cause jewz) by leveraging my gun dealer friend in CA, which i assume would be a long and complex process.
I get that, but if your wife possibly has to use the gun, you need her input. Heck, I was on here determined to buy a 1911 or an Ar-15 about a year ago. Instead I made my wife go to a gun range, no compromise as I was tired of her irrational fear of guns and ended up buying a 9mm. Once the door is open, you’ll be able to purchase a few more over time and the sneer will be gone.

It’s a pet peeve of mine. I was guilty of it as well. I buy t a gun I like and use the excuse, “just in case you can protect yourself.” Right, end up shooting her self or having it used against her is the more likely outcome. We won’t get into the adrenaline dump and under pressure targeting.

Check NYC laws, it is an extremely easy process to make purchases from gun dealer to gun dealer in my state.

so magazine capacity and cost of ammo doesn’t deter you from having a 1911? seems like for people that like them, they really like them. good brands/bad brands? i shot a nice kimber in LA, but hear horror stories about them as well. no love for the SW .40?
1911- Kimber is a good brand. Smith and wesson, colt, rock island*, sti*, Ruger ,browning, para*, sig Sauer and more are great guns for around a 1000.
*Rock Island , sti and para make a double stack 1911 with high capacity.
1911s can be tricked out until they move like silk.
Rock Island is a fantastic entry 1911. You can basically start with a $600 rock island and overtime have a gun smith turn it into a $3000 ed brown a piece at a time for half the price.

Also 1911s come in tons of calibers. 10mm,9mm,45,357 sig, 38 super

Here is the rock island comp 1911 site http://armscor.com/firearms/pro-series/

This is probably a silly question from a silly foreigner: If a gun is purchased in a different state, does the gun have to be re-registered once you’re back in your home state or does the original permit stand?

The easy answer is it is complicated. I live in a state with gun laws now more liberal than Texas. So, I could move freely between those states with my guns. If I moved to California, I would have to get rid of some due to design and magazine limits. Others, you do have to register and other you need a license. Ming could move to my state and never worry about what he had, what caliber or magazine limits. I couldn’t do the same. Also, I think some of my weapons may be banned in NYC.

Depends on the state.
haha yeah, i married way up so i’d like to hang onto the lady as she puts up with most of my insanity.

she likes dolphins, i’d have better luck with targets of invading chinese soldiers

at the moment i have zero hope of getting her interested, i’m worried about me.

i’m not jewey enough to get a CCW in nyc (you have to be a hasid and a diamond dealer), nor am i jewey enough to have jew gold or get to go to the meetings where we decide the weather. on the other hand i am definitely jewey enough for the antisemites to want me dead. having a shiksa for a mother sucks sometimes.

i manage by only leaving my apartment to go to my dojo, or food shopping. i work from home.

Fair enough. Do what you have to do to keep her if you’re punching above your weight.

I’d rather have large capacity weapons. There’s just so much to love about the 1911, if I’m already limited to 10 rounds, fuck it. You can get 8 round magazines for the 1911. I’d just go with the 1911. Plus, your fucked up state will probably reduce the magazine capacity to 7 anyway before long. They’ve already tried to do that, haven’t they? Then when you want more magazines for your gun, nobody in the free states will want to ship them to New York.

Like a lot of things, choosing a 1911 has a lot to do with personal preference. A lot of people will say Kimbers are the most reliable out of the box. I don’t know if there’s much actual evidence to support that. I have some different things I look at. I don’t like the firing pin safety mechanism on the Kimbers. In fact, I don’t like firing pin safeties on 1911s at all. I prefer Series 70 1911s over Series 80 because the series 70s don’t have a firing pin safety. I can talk all day about why, if you’re interested but I’ll spare you for now because it’s gun nerd shit.

Oh, I forgot you asked about ammo price.

Don’t try to trick me. I know you’ve got Jew gold.

Series 70 have smoother trigger pull is the short answer to why they are better.
Series 80 basically have a "drop protection " safety that’s not needed

I’m with Devil. Like the 1911 and would want it in .45.

Never had a Kimber. My favorite I’ve owned was Colt’s Gold Cup but have shot many others over the years.

I’ve always wanted to try the CZ 1911 or 97 in .45 and thought about buying a CZ 75 in .40SW. Anyone here have feedback other than the limited capacity on their 1911?

I have a cz 75 rami iN 40 sw. I love it.
Cz machining just seems to be damn near perfect. I am huge fan. I have shot a cz 1911. Very nice shooting gun.

Also, since you have Jew gold and your wife has you on a short leash but has no knowledge of guns, I would suggest framing up your gun purchase like this:

“Sweetie, I’ve chosen the kind of gun I want to buy. It’s called an M1911. It’s a really old design so it doesn’t cost as much as pricey modern guns that use the latest cutting edge technology. Unfortunately it will still be expensive. There’s just no way around that. To minimize the burden on the family, I’ve done quite a bit of shopping and price comparisons. The absolute cheapest budget gun I can find is called a Les Baer. It’s way less expensive than other guns and I should be able to get one for around $3K, which will only be a tiny piece of our Jew gold.”

My greatest fear is that when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them.

unless i decide on .357 in which case i need this dan wesson, right?

Obviously.

If I only had one handgun I wouldn’t want it to be a 1911. I love mine but it’s a pain in the ass to clean. Also it’s big and heavy. Yes it feels great in my hand, but I don’t carry for ‘hand feelsies’ so I don’t really care about that. Whether you have a permit or not I’d want a gun I could conceal. And you should get one that is ridiculously easy to clean to you’re not discouraged from shooting it a lot.

Just buy a Glock and stop overthinking it. Every man should own one, and you might as well make it your first gun.

Perfect, I completely forgot about those things…

So, you ever carry a Glock 22 with 15 rounds of 180 grain on board ? Like, all day, 5 days a week ? Or the .45 auto version (full sized glock).

I do admit I like my Glock, though. It’s easy to shoot well (enough). Not as accurate as a decent 1911 can be, but for my purposes plenty accurate. And that’s with the crappy factory trigger.

Plastic is for toys.
I carry a full size 1911 every day.

I suppose they aren’t for the weak and easily confused. It takes me about 5 mins to strip and clean a 1911.
If you just clean the feed ramp and barrel it would take 30 seconds

The zep comp Glocks shoot on par with almost any other comp guns.
I just like the extra weight of metal. The SW m&p is a nice shooting gun as well.

Don’t get me wrong, I like 1911s. My Dad had/has an old Gold Cup that I used to shoot when I was a teenager. Glass rod trigger and near-one hole groups at 25 yards with those funny looking 185 graainFMJ semi-wadcutters.

However, I was never able to shoot that one, or any others, and I shot plenty of nice ones, as well as I shoot my Glock 22. It may have been grip size, as I have a fairly small hand. Even my Glock I could use a smaller grip, but it’s an old one so I can’t change out the grips.

I’ve got an SW Shield, I like it a lot. But that LCR has a great DA (only) trigger pull out of the box. Better than my GP100 that I’ve shot 1000s of rounds out of since I got it 1992 or 3.

Back to Ming, I think the Dan Wesson idea or something similar is the way to go.

Dan Wesson is still making them new…
