Not Self Defense Advice Fridays: Personal Space

Start the year off right by asserting your personal space in public transit, in the club, or cuddling in your favourite onesie. Created by industrial designer Siew Ming Cheng, this stylish vest brings the best from the 80’s straight to your daily commute. Where would you guys use this vest best?

This is stupid.

Did Hedgehogey invent that thing ?

I can see it now, accidentally brush up against someone and start a fight…

From a self-defense view I don’t like it. It looks like all someone would have to do is flip up the bottom end into your face.

I prefer the real 80’s DIY version

Good concept

Everyone reading this must remember that this was designed for asian coutnries where street harassment/groping is a serious problem. So much till that they even have a word describing a person who is a repeat groper/pervert who commits weird acts of sexual harassment in public “痴漢, チカン, or ちかん” In English Chikan. The issue is so pervasive till their are even books about such atrocities. See

Chika: Bizarre true accounts of train and street groping in Tokyo, Japan.
(I can’t post links yet as I have under 5 posts)

Appropriate for the NYC metro subway? Probably not.
Appropriate for Japan in which subways and buses are so crowded till they hire people to cram people in trains. Possibly.

I just love the look on her face.

I had to remove some spikes from a leather jacket I wear because it was making it hard for people to hug me.

Great
