You are mentally disabled, aren’t you? Seriously, why would you just force your “favorite” bands on us with no reason besides “hey look at me! I made a thread with shit that has nothing to do with anything besides me making a list!”

You didn’t even bother to try and start a conversation about said bands, the names of them are just sitting there on my screen. Should I tell you my top ten favorite bands? Should I tell you why your bands suck balls? Should I jump into the circle jerk of one and tell you how awesome your list is? I just don’t know…

DO NOT POST NEW THREADS. You just don’t know how to do it and I don’t think you ever will.

excellent advice. take it.

You didn’t even mention GWAR therefore your opinion is tasteless and of no value.

Since this has been 'dogged let me say you people need more heaviness in your lives*. I’m talking blast beats, and I’m talking Nile. YouTube - Nile - Smashing the Antiu
These guys have had their moments too (though personally I could have done without the solos: less widdlyness, more brutality). YouTube - Decapitated - Blessed

*alright, morbid angel are pretty brutal, I’ll give you that.

I LOL (and I mean that I literally LOL) when I see someone specify “old” Metallica. It’s nothing more than a trend, one that is followed by everyone from the most elitest of metalheads to teenyboppers. And it’s as though none of the other bands people mention have had questionable releases (for one example from this list, Risk/Cryptic Writings/The World Needs a Hero certainly come to mind for Megadeth, though certainly other bands on that list have had a string of shitty releases as well). It’s just become a joke is all. Are people really that insecure with their music listening? “ZOMG, they might think I like St. Anger!” Come on, grow a set.

Scorpions and Manowar need to be on the list.

Also, Nortt has some really interesting music, if you’re into super-slow dirge-like “doom” metal. It would be awesome as a video game soundtrack or something.

ummm…tenacious d anyone?

Ooh, and Dragonforce.

St Anger is so bad that I sure as hell don’t want anyone asuming I condone it. In fact Load and Reload are utter shit. Judas priest had only a couple poor albums. Even their worst is not have as bad as Metalica’s.
Get this: Opeth and even Testament never had a bad album.
The difference is that every album from Opeth is amazing.

Yea I listen to Nile and those guys.
In Flames is alright but their new stuff is not very good.

Well, Metallica really did suck huge cock ever since the Black album. It’s that they are still popular/relevant and putting out new material that makes people feel the need to tack on the “old”. Pretentious is when people try to sound extra-hardcore by claiming they sold out on Justice for All.

I will agree with you that Megadeth sold out just as badly (only with less success) and most bands have had questionable releases, but like I said, usually it’s after those bands fell apart and stopped being popular/relevant, so they didn’t receive as much flak; it’s only natural. I was in awe of how shitty Cryptic Writings and w/e the album after that was. They sounded like some whiny alternative band.

Testament’s sell-out album was The Ritual. They were completely going for a commercial Metallica Black Album type sound…the only difference is a) the Black Album was commercial but at least sounded decent. b) Testament rebounded big-time with Low. (Demonic sucked total balls imo, but it was anything but commercial.) Honestly, I really don’t get why people speak so highly of Opeth. Maybe I’m just not listening to the right album/songs.

I think my personal favorites would go something like:

  1. DIO
  2. Queensryche
  3. Judas Priest
  4. Iron Maiden
  5. Symphony X (first 5 albums + the live double cd were all amazing from start to finish)
  6. Black Sabbath
  7. Mercyful Fate
  8. Blind Guardian
  9. Fates Warning (if they kept John Arch around they’d have been higher on the list probably)
  10. Angra

My ten all time least favourite bands are as follows:

  1. Enya- not a band, as such, but just making that music sucks.

  2. Aqua

  3. Matchbox20

4-10. All the bands that came after, and sound like, matchbox20.

Do not discuss.

I have loved Maiden for nigh on 20 years but they have made some absolutely gash albums

1.Botch
2.Isis
3.Black Sabbath (early)
4.Cave In
5.Converge
6.Neurosis
7.Sunno))
8.QOTSA
9.Kyuss
10.Faith No More.

I like Cryptic Writings. The World Needs A Hero was OK, but every song on Megadeth’s three latest albums follows the same boring formula.

Being a ‘fan of band X’ seems bit strange to me. Every band consisting of musicians who are actually trying different things will have albums that are varying degrees of great or suck.

That is very true, though I do think there’s a pretty clear line of distinction between bands who try new things and wind up producing stuff we don’t like and bands that go, “Gee, MTV isn’t playing metal anymore, let me totally change our sound to fit what’s popular now.”

You don’t like epic, beautiful, cinematic compositions? Fuck your face.

God damnit Aberahamn

Anvil!!

Ever listen to Delirium? Pretty sweet if you like Enya…used to be my all time favorite listen-to-while stoned cd.
