Moose wants to be a cop!

It’s me again! I’m going to give you some more advice that you don’t want.

Fuck ‘feeling it out.’ You’re a big boy now. You need to decide what you want to do, make a plan and stick to it. You’re going to burn tons of time and money by being an indecisive little girl. Make a plan. Carry out the plan.

Your in San Diego County? Don’t go sheriffs they pay the worst in the county and your 1st 2 years are spent working Jails.
Lol. Those are sort of a mix of myth and reality.
Well, that’s life in general, eh ?

That’s a good point… I’ve seen that happen quite a bit with new hires. Work detention (that is the first certification you get at P.O.S.T.), where you kinda get “tested” to see if you might have what it takes to be on patrol.

Other agencies might be different, but I’ve seen that quite a bit.

I’ve only heard gay men use the term.

They said there were two tracks, patrol or jails.

Where should I be looking at for better pay?

Not SDPD either, but from what I understand and you will have to do the leg work most of the smaller departments around here especially in the more affluent areas pay better.
The good news is the pay structure for every department is public record. So you can look it up pretty easy like.

Here is a good place to start looking

The fuck you a teenager or what ? Do some fucking research on your own, for dogs sake !

Seriously, it’s good to ask for advice, but you are going to have to do some serious work to make up your mind.

I used to train arnis with a few cops in San Diego. They were career LEOs and seemed to like their jobs, were paid well, and were surprisingly laid back, cool guys. So, it seems like you could make a career out of it if you decided the doctor thing wouldn’t work out for whatever reason.

The two tracks thing is new to me and does change things a bit
Pay still looks low on the patrol side but not nearly as bad as detentions

Holy fuck you can barely live on what they pay detention officers.

Not a great way to keep everyone on the up and up if you ask me.

I’m going to have a significant disability pay check, so pay isn’t a huge concern for me.
I’m going to have a significant disability pay check, so pay isn’t a huge concern for me.
So, significant disability paycheck, but you want to be a cop ? You can/could do that and still get your disability check ?

That sweet sweet government teat.

Yes I could. Let’s not kid ourselves and say that police work is physically demanding, at least not physically demanding as my current job.

I’m not writing about your ability to do cop work, but the legality of collecting disability and doing a job that does require physical work up to and including fighting.

Of course, I’m sure you’ve got that covered. Just a bit odd to me.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that someone who isn’t smart enough to answer these questions for himself isn’t smart enough to be a doctor. So I would suggest being a cop.

One, fuck you.

I’ve got a thousand plates spinning in the air, forgive me if I don’t have the time to research every department in the SD area. I figured maybe the person who said that 50k a year was low would have some better insight on what other departments there were.

Bkr, as for the disability, it is a paycheck to compensate the loss of a military career, and to compensate for permanent injuries. It is different from SSDI, which precludes you from working while you collect it.

My words aren’t fluffy but my advice is always solid. You should make a fucking decision. Pick one and forget the other.

Thanks for the info, on the job injury, I get it. Thanks for your service and regrets that you have to retire from what you really want to do.

From what I’ve seen, I’d avoid detention deputy position. I think you would be supremely bored doing that, from what I’ve seen of you over the years at Bullshido.net.
