I e-mailed Mr. Hatmaker and invited him to the thread. ( full disclosure,I am an advocate of his materail)

Sure thing. I’m only interested in getting the true story of anything sorted out. I honestly don’t know much about the guy.

LOL, WUT?

Hey Herb,
Thanks for the kind words, gentlemanly support, and the invite. Please forgive me if I do not participate; I keep the extent of my on-line activity to my personal correspondence (with folks such as yourself who take the time to contact me directly). I find there are only so many hours in the day and once all is said and done the limits work well for me and my family.
I wish all who support well and thank them for their generosity of opinion.
Those who feel con, I wish them success in whatever path they choose.
And to those on the fence, I hope they find whatever fits their needs no matter the source.
Thank you again for your kindness sir; my best to you and your son!
Mark Hatmaker

Hello sir,

The folks at Bullshido.com have started a disscussion thread for you. on the site you have a mix of detractors, as well as supporters(I proudly count myself as an advocate of your material)
Would you considering coming to the forum?

It would be helpful if we could get more information on there than we currently have. Right now it’s just images.

The problem with this is that there is not much information about his background at all beyond what’s given in Paladin Press in this page.

I’m with milwauke_cop regarding Hatmaker’s material (but only for his takedown material and SOME, not all, of his striking stuff.)

There is a review of his books by Matt Thornton in sherdog:

http://www.sherdog.net/forums/archive/index.php/t-319362.html

And this is Hatmaker’s professional website and his boxingwrestling based system: http://www.extremeselfprotection.com/

All in all, Hatmaker seems to be blending pugilism with greco and freestyle wrestling as well as providing services as a fighter coach. There is nothing much about his credentials at all.

Based on his response to m_cop’s e-mail, I think the best way to get those questions answered would be by politely asking him, not to participate in an online forum, but to answer a Q&A about his background, his methods, and how he has come to develop his stuff. Better yet if someone could agree to a phone interview with him.

New topic: Mark Hatmaker: NAZI?

Looking at the book as a series, what you’ll notice is that Hatmaker almost entirely avoids including any martial art teaching from Asia. The NHBF series, as well as the rest of his material, are based on “Western Empiricism,” that is, European and early American fighting styles.

I am going to try very hard this evening to do this to a scrawny white belt. After that a non-scrawny white belt. IF that works, I’ll try it on a real person.

That’s so many shades of awesome.
It’s like a reverse double-arm bar of insanity.

Upa: How in the world are you going to get to that position???

Hedge: He does gets to my nerves with his ‘pro-western’ antics. I’m sure he could have found a better way to explain his adherence to wrestling and pugilism. But nope. Add to that his disdain for what he calls ‘inferior karate two-upper-knuckle’ punching and that punching with the lower three knuckles is always superior. FUCK. NO.

The way I’m envisioning it is that I’ll take the back and first work a standard harness and then underhook their other arm and work from there.

I don’t have the detail worked out too well but I’m hopeful. Alas, if tonight ends up having attendance like Wednesday, I’ll be the scrub.

Oh shit, this is going to be a long night for some poor white belt soul :evil6:

Full nelson-…full nelson with the legs, I guess

Anyway, the guy seems like a complete fucking douche who uses ridiculous power moves, and there are way, WAY better sources for any technique he might do well.

While the nelson is there, he’s also attacking the elbows.

Edit: Nevermind, he’s not I thought the guys arms were palm up but they’re palm down.

Yes, it’s gayer than you thought, but to set up what you’re suggesting, I’d still use the regular full nelson to set it up.

I’ve got about 20 minutes to figure out how to make this work before heading out. The biggest problem that I see is that I’m going to have to get both legs up virtually simultaneously or else the opponent will be able to turn into me. I suspect I’m going to dislocate my own hips.

Well, no dice. I tried to start off with a compliant partner. Started from his back and couldn’t figure out how to properly scoot back while keeping the arms and also keeping them from escaping an arm and turning. Cracky is probably right, I might have been able to work it off of a full nelson.

i’m thinking it might start as a turtle attack, and involve some remarkably dangerous gravity induced movement to get to the end position.

but i’ve got terrible spatial reasoning.

So I tried it with a compliant partner this morning after rounds. You can hit it off of a full nelson but you have to slide distally along their arms before kicking over to circle their arms with your legs and there are opportunities for them to turn during that, and you can tap them earlier than that anyway. Not to mention the bazillion easier submissions that don’t require you to create that much distance.

In short, and this is obvious just from the picture, retarded.
