Do you know any LEO’s, HedgeHogey? Because I sure do, and every one of them would have done the same thing.
Ka-bar, what the fuck are you saying? I pray that not every cop wouldve shot Diallo. Theres too many that would have, but I hope its not THAT common place.
Osiris-
I’ll concede that 41 shots fired was excessive, but law enforcement training teaches you that anyone, especially a suspected violent criminal who reaches into a back pocket, inside a jacket, etc., in a poorly-lit entryway WILL be shot for the safety of the officers.
Thats disgusting. You dont kill someone for reaching for ID or whatever. Thats bullshit.
You ever been shot at, Osiris?
No. I dont care if you have though. That doesnt give you the right to kill because youre a bit paranoid.
if he was instucted to keep his hands in view, but he doesnt follow instructions ,an officer will assume he is grabbing for a weapon. for the record i have never shot anyone on the job, but i will use deadly force if i feel my life is in danger, and someone reaching into pockets when i tell them not to is asking to be shot.
Osiris, when your job involves risking your life on a daily basis, then you can lecture me about being paranoid.
This is an interesting conversation, but it’s presence here has turned this into a Trollshido thread. Which, actually, it pretty much always was.
Murdering someone in front of their house because you were scared is just wrong. Imagine if citizens acted like that. You seriously piss someone off, they reach for SOMETHING, and you shoot the fuck out of them. Umm, no. Thats bullshit. Thats also murder.
I’m not just a citizen. I am a LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER. I have responsibilities and duties above and beyond the citizenry I protect. SELF-DEFENSE is NOT murder.
What would have happened if it was a gun and the officers didn’t fire? It would have been one dead victim and one or two dead officers. Is that the kind of scenario you’d prefer?
You know NOTHING of fear.
I’ll concede that 41 shots fired was excessive,
Nonsense. How can someone be excessivly dead? A time like that is not the proper moment to worry about an open casket ceremony. Shooting is LETHAL FORCE, whether it’s 2 shots or 40. They aim center of mass and intend to stop the person. No such thing as excessive in a time which would legitimatly warrant lethal force. And wasn’t it 4 guys? That’s one magazine per guy. It probably took all of 3 seconds to empty the mag at a time like that. People would portray someone sitting back behind a gatling gun and cutting his lifeless body in half.
Of course, since I wasn’t there (like everyone else here) I won’t pretend to know whether or not it was warranted.
That particular angle is bullshit though. Excessive lethal force. 41 BULLETS OMG!!! As if that’s worse (and the guy is more dead) than one unwarranted round.
Murdering someone because theyre not listening for whatever reason is NOT self defense. If you shoot before a weapon is even seen, THATS MURDER. Fear is not an excuse for murder. You cant just flip out and kill people because youre scared. My life is worth as much as any police officers, but if I protect it with such zeal theyll lock me up. And saying that I dont know fear is ridiculous. When people start hopping out of cars, reaching for shit, and pointing at me, IM SCARED. And unlike those bitch ass cops who killed Diallo, they were gonna kill me.

Oh, yes, it’s so easy to quote 5 or 6 names of people who were victims of crooked cops, but who ever worries about the hundreds of officers killed every year because someone didn’t want to go to jail for a few months, or god forbid, get a traffic ticket.

He was told to freeze. Any movement after that, especially going inside a jacket will be construed as going for a weapon. I don’t care if he was going for his wallet or he was going to hand out Jolly Ranchers, he did exactly what he was told not to.
Police procedures exist for a reason, for the safety of the officers and the safety of the public they protect. These officers told the subject not to move for their safety AND his. He disobeyed and paid for it.

I, for one, have never emptied an entire clip into a subject, but I’ll agree with you that lethal force is lethal force. And yes, like I said before, one dead subject is better than one or two dead cops and one dead subject.
“Umm, he was reaching for a weapon?”
I was referring to Brands post sarcastically.
“Police procedures exist for a reason, for the safety of the officers and the safety of the public they protect. These officers told the subject not to move for their safety AND his. He disobeyed and paid for it.”
Dont move or we’ll murder you exists for the police’s protection, NOT the public’s. And that is NOT a valid form of defense. What the fuck are you doing shooting before you see a weapon? And why is my life not worth that much?
