Keenan Cornelius: Atos no more.
Screenshots or it didn’t happen.

Actually, it wouldn’t surprise me if this is at least adjacent to the truth. I haven’t seen anything to lead me to believe Keenan isn’t serious about training hard and winning. I believe he is. But it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s not always showing up to train with his team.

He’s one of the biggest names in the sport. It’s hard to make money in Jiu Jitsu and he’s one of the few people who can do it. I’m sure there are lots of opportunities competing for his time. But I suspect he has lots of training opportunities that his teammates don’t have and is taking advantage of them. So, it won’t surprise me if he’s not always showing up to team trainings but until I see him fall off in competition, I’m going to assume he’s still training hard.
I assuming you responded before you saw my later post with a video by him.

If not I’ll dig up some more.

That’s it? One example of where he was late to class so he went to the gym instead? And that’s what you used to draw your conclusions that he’s about to be on the decline. Wow. Way to jump to conclusions.

“Celebrating when he gets locked out of comp class.” That’s what you said. That’s what you took from that video? Nah, man. You’re seeing what you want to. You’ve been drinking too much of that Atos Kool-Aid.
Nope. There are more examples which I can post, which is what I told you.

Honestly I don’t care that Keenan left Atos. His vids were pulled from Atos online like 6mo-year ago. I had to decide between him or Gracie University for my other online instructional fix and so I pay him my monthly sub. I’m happy for him. I’m even happier that both sides were able to split on good terms. It is entirely possible that the Atos grind was burning him out, he and Andre recognized it, and they decided to amicably part ways. Whatever the actual reasons were, the last part that they decided to amicably part ways is the truth.

Unlike the Kurt Osiander-Ralph Gracie split where both where talking trash on the other within hours and GB also put out a statement saying that Kurt was unwelcome in their academies, Andre actively encouraged us to bring Keenan in as often as possible, and though he would give us no details on the split he was very insistent that it was amicable and that Keenan was still to be welcomed in all his affiliates.

My biggest reason for making this thread was to shine a light on an actual amicable split in the BJJ world instead of the typical recriminations.
That’s all well and good. But it also speaks to Andre’s ego if he thinks it’s his place to tell his affiliates who should or should not be welcomed into their individual schools.
There are also lots of opportunities for Keenan outside of the competition circuit.

I suspect he is more than bright enough to realize this.

And to realize that there are other life goals to be had other than ending up a middle aged, washed up competitor, with multiple herniated and bulging discs who can no longer compete as a young athlete can.

He may be at a stage where he wants to be in environments that provide him with maximum opportunities to also explore his options to be successful off the mats, as well as on the mats.
My coach was absolutely(IMO) without a doubt the best Super HW BJJ blackbelt on Fl’s West Coast in the 2000’s. I use to break his balls a lot about not competing because I knew he would destroy everybody in open weights except Cyborg Abreu and He’s in Cyborgs league.
He basically said I can either get this school going or I can maybe go win all these tournaments for a few dollars but I can’t effectively do both. He chose his school and now has two schools where I have seen 30+ schools go belly up in that same time frame.

A friend of mine went to the ADCC 3 times and had won Gracie Worlds and a bunch of other stuff. He hurt his neck and can’t train hard anymore. He works at a paint store.

Being the best in the world is awesome and admirable but it won’t put you’re kids through college.
That’s all well and good. But it also speaks to Andre’s ego if he thinks it’s his place to tell his affiliates who should or should not be welcomed into their individual schools.
GTFOH. Telling his affiliates not to act like there is bad blood and still welcome a former academy instructor isn’t ego. I get it you don’t like Andre Galvao for whatever reason, but brother you are reaching if you are going to say that him telling his affiliates not to make beef where there is none egotistical.

Where did I ever say that Andre said who shouldn’t be welcomed in his affiliates? You my friend are reading things into statements.

You see this all the time. Eddie Cummings leaves Renzo Gracie/DDS and suddenly RG and GB affiliates start cancelling seminars on him and stuff. What? Cummings BJJ is suddenly no good because he isn’t with Renzo anymore? Andre saying he doesn’t want that sort of thing in his affiliation isn’t ego, it is leadership. Good, solid, positive leadership.

Likewise Keenan deciding to just say that there were a lot of things going on, he was asked to leave but it was amicable is leadership. Guy is in a league of his own in Gi something Andre lacks. It would have been so easy for him to talk trash as he walked away.

The sport needs more people like the both of them.

If you tell me Andre is giving his blessing for his affiliates to welcome Keenan into their schools, I’m also going to assume he would feel equally comfortable telling them not to allow someone into their schools.

Also, he’s a religious nutter who preaches on the mats and doesn’t believe in evolution. He’s a fucking retard. And while I can respect his Jiu Jitsu, I have zero respect for his intellect. (Also…see Kron Gracie).

And no…the sport does not need more mental midgets.

This should free up some time for him to research flat earth like a real jiu jitsu master.
He’s come here twice since I’ve been a part of Atos Jerusalem and I’ve trained there in San Diego for a week. I’ve never seen him preach on the mats. Does he have strong religious beliefs? Yes. Does he bring it on the mats, not that I’ve seen. I heard he hosts a bible study in some room in the gym, but then he and his wife originally lived there too… Multi-purposing a space that is whatever. When I was there he allowed me to use a room for my daily prayers, he did the same for the muslims that were training there. Never felt any pressure from him to change religions.

Do you have proof he doesn’t believe in evolution or are you just saying that because he is religious?

Your assumptions are not facts.

Why, yes. I do have proof.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.reddit.com/r/bjj/comments/2p36zz/galvao_doesnt_believe_in_evolution/

He hasn’t rejected all science, though. He’s all about that chemistry.
That’s it a single meme?

Ok in that meme there is a scientific statement, which is true and a faith statement which is at best unprovable. Straight line evolution as indicated on the top of that meme is scientifically false.

Anyway you are pretty much hitting me with a genetic fallacy. If he ever tries to preach to me on the mats(or even off) I’ll let you all know. However, his religious beliefs, like mine, really have no bearing on this conversation.

From everything I’ve heard about him, he is universally considered a good teacher, knowledgeable in his subject matter, and treats people well. I’ve not heard that he pushes his religion on anyone.

And Devil enjoys trolling in general, and even more so, religion.
Have you ever met him or spoken with him? If not, these are all assumptions on your part, and again has no bearing on this conversation.
Assumptions? You mean like the ones you’re making about Keenan being on the verge of sucking because he deadlifted instead of rolling one morning?

I wasn’t trolling. This other motherfucker was trolling when he said LulzKeenanSUXcawse1POSTonInstuhgram.

I didn’t say you were trolling. I said you enjoy trolling.
I didn’t say you were trolling. I said you enjoy trolling.
I stand corrected.
Where did I say he sucks or was on the verge of such? Try again.
You know what you said, bitchass nigga.
You know what you said, bitchass nigga.
I do, and it isn’t what you are saying.

The funniest thing about lil’ Mike is how he alters his argument to paint himself as an insider or detached from the situation, depending on what fits the bullshit points he’s trying to make.

Me: Mikey, you drank the Atos Kool-aid.
Mikey: How dare you? Andre has only visited my country twice!

Me: Mikey, you’re making assumptions just like I am.
Mikey: Have you ever met Andre??? I was licking his ballsack just last night and he told me Keenan is always too high on meth to make it to class.

Yeah, I’m definitely not reading any of that shit. Write me another novel. Dance, boy.

More exciting news as this continues to develop.

I’m really excited to see where this goes. I hope quality instructors blow up his inbox.

Interesting.

Keenan has been spending time on the mats with the Renzo / Danaher group this week.
