Judo Rank Certification

Hi
was wondering if anybody has any idea on how someonw who is mostly self taught could get their rank certified. Trained under Master Ron Pardini for approx 1year but was unable to continue my trainning with him due to a job change and a growing family along with the 2hr round trip was getting costly. there are NO judo schools around here its a very small town. i have continued my trainning through books and dvds. any advise would be great

If you are asking how to get a legitimate certification, you will probably have to find a school somewhere near you. If you just want the paper to hang on your wall:

do you want training or certification? your post isn’t clear.

if you want judo rank, you’re going to have to attend a judo dojo. home study doesn’t count, and once you are in a proper dojo, if you have skill, it will be recognized and you will be ranked accordingly, but don’t be surprised if you have to wear a white belt until you get ranked.

did your previous sensei issue you rank and register it with the national governing body? (USJF, USJA or USA Judo) if not, or if he is not with one of those three associations, then you have no rank anyway.

You need to find a Judo club, train under competent instructors and then get graded based on abilities on the mat.

You can’t learn Judo from a book or a dvd.

I guess all of you have never heard of Doug Rogers who was a self taught judoka whom won a medal in the Olympics. My old instructor Master Pardini was also self taught he went on to become a 13x masters national champion. As well as Alex stakis who was a regional champion and qualified for the world chpionships he was also self taught. And I’m pretty sure nobody taught Kano judo! Never tell me I can’t do something!!
Never tell me I can’t do something!!
It would appear that the replies haven’t told you that you can’t do something. They tried to guide you in the right direction and show you the correct way to meet your stated goal. Here you go.

I understand that but I have no judo dojo around here I live in a very small town and the closest dojo is in Pittsburgh way to far for a man who works shifts with a wife who works shifts and a 21/2 year old son. I used to make the trip when we didn’t have a child or jobs but now it’s just impossible. I’m the type of person who can teach himself just about anything. I have unwavering confidence in my judo skill just want advice on how I can get rank. That’s all I’m asking.

Do you mean this Doug Rogers who trained at multiple dojo’s, including the Kodokan, since the age of 15?

Do you mean this Master Ron Pardini who has trained under a former US judo team trainer for nearly half a century?

No idea who your mate Starkis is, but you do realise that Kano achieved rank (i.e. was taught under qualified instructors) in a number of Jujutsu schools (including a kyoshi menkyo in Tenjin Shin’yo Ryu) before embarking on the creation of Judo?

So no, none of the people worth knowing that you’ve listed were actually self taught. But good luck with that.

Yes Master Ron Pardini who taught himself judo to certain point cause he and his friends couldn’t afford judo instruction so the made a makeshift judo mat out of tarps and straw. And when the local clubs would test for rank would request to be tested so Yeats that’s the same man. And doug Rogers didnt train at te kodokan until after his firt Olympics then trained under kumira for the worlds and Olympics where he went on to win a bronze medal.
Alex stakis was a local there is hardly any literature on him. And as far as the translation from JJ to judo for Kano would be about the same for me from Greco to Judo so…

A short vintage doc about Doug Rogers, a self taught Canadian Judoka that took the silver at the Tokyo …

And master Pardini is about 73 years old he wa 68 when I trained under him. So do the math! 73 - 50 is 23. So my info on him doesn’t come from the web it came from the man himself.

Cool story bro, have any references? Given your propensity to mash the facts (see below), I’ll be excused for not taking anything you say at face value.

Actually, he started training at the Kodokan in 1960, four years ahead of earning a silver medal at the 1964 Olympics. This was after having earned his shodan under Fred Okimura at the Montreal Seidokwan dojo.
*Kimura was actually coaching out of Takushoku University.

You’re grasp on the foundations of Judo are astounding…

Don’t see what the issue here is
I trained under master Pardini at the Pittsburgh yosikan academy
I have competed and won some local Shiai and matches
I am in contact with master Kim (president of PA judo)who is trying to figure out the best method to accommodate me in regards to testing as he has watched me compete.
So I have already found a route with people who have clout in the judo community.
As far as understanding the history of judo I don’t understand the history of folk style or greco wrestling but I somehow won various championships in both HOW STRANGE!

We’re sorry to announce this, but clip.dj has shut down its service for good.

Excellent reference material…

This does not prove that the info came from Pardini, nor any of your assertions about his training. Nor being able to rank as a self-taught Judoka.

As far as documentation grow up I’m 36 years old why would I lie about stupid shit like this and anybody that knows me knows that I will be the first person to tell you my greatest defeats before I tell of my greatest victory. Worst whoopin I took was against Mark Angle I was a lot older than he was we wrestled in the eastern open qualifier it was like a man playing with a child. I have no ego I have nothing to lie for!

Firstly, you tried to use Judo history to back up your argument, it’s not my fault you were talking out of your arse.

Secondly, the issue here is that you came on here asking how to rank as a self taught Judoka. Actual ranked Judoka’s gave you an answer, albeit one you didn’t want to hear. Then you started pointing out famous (?!) Judoka who were apparently self-taught as proof that you could do it too. Though it would appear that your claims of them being self-taught are speculative, at best.

If you’ve already found a route with people who have clout in the Judo community, why are you on here crying about self teaching?

Well this site is utterly useless as far as helping martial artists.
Get a grip on yourselves

Fucking you grow up, idiot. You make claims, you back them up. You made a claim, you attempted to back it up with far from reliable evidence and got owned. You’re a self taught judo-ka that has won shiai? Prove it. Now.
