Jean Claude Van Damme to fight in K-1 (supposedly)

Not sure how much I trust this source, but here you go:

Actor Jean-Claude van Damme will fight Olympic gold-medalist boxer Somluck Kamsing in a K-1 muay thai match in March 2010.

This rumor was recently confirmed by Kamsing, who signed the contract for the fight on Sept. 4. The bout will take place in Las Vegas and will consist of five two-minute rounds, said Kamsing.

Van Damme has requested to bar the use of elbows during the fight because he is an actor and does not want his face to get cut or bruised, Kamsing told Siamsport.

so, the requirement for kamsing is:

VanDamme used to be a MT fighter or a kickboxer at one point, right?

I believe he was a kickboxer, though Wiki says that “His styles consist of kickboxing, Shotokan karate, Muay Thai, and taekowndo”. Wiki lists the tournaments that he competed in, but I’m not familiar enough with most of them to know what is karate, what kickboxing, etc. (though obviously the “Netherlands Kick Boxing” competition in 1977 was kickboxing). He also did ballet for 5 years, and won a bodybuilding tournament. Interesting. I liked him in No Retreat, No Surrender, but then I always liked over-the-top, corny movies. I do find it comical, though, that someone who plays martial artist tough guys in the movies would worry about cuts and bruises.

His exposure to MT came from Michel Qissi. He never competed in the ring.

I’ve never seen any credible evidence for jvd’s competiton claims. if this comes off (which it won’t), it’ll be either a work or homicide.

Isn’t Van Damme almost 50? Seems a little late to be starting his fighting career, especially vs a guy about half his age. Is there a big weight difference?

**** No wait!!! There was this little gem!!!

He’s 48. I dont know when his bday is but I suppose he could be 49 by the time this happens.

Also, the ONLY place I see his fight record is on wikipedia, and all know how abso-fucking-lutely accurate THAT source is…

Who has played both a Thai kickboxer and a Middle-Eastern French Foreign Legionnaire…

Why are we supposed to even care?

He did do kick boxing when he was younger. 19/1 I believe.

If they’re gonna dip their hands in glue and broken glass, I’m definitely getting the Pay-Per-View.

any evidence of that?

I edited the wikipade to give him that false record. Or did I? AKA you need a better source, though I cant see how it could be verified at this point.

JCVD couldn’t even handle his Golden Gloves boxer bodyguard. If this turns out to be true, then I’m going to be more excited to see an ass-beating than I was for Jose Canseco.

Hey asshole. If you had gotten off your high horse, you wouldve followed the links so noted on the wikipedia fight record to videos and other articles that proved the record as true. Yes wikipedia can be edited by anyone, but a lot of the time it gives links to articles that back up those facts and when it doesnt it will say [citation needed]. The fight record was backed up. So its real nic of you to fuck up the wiki page.

P.S. Go eat a dick.
