It frustrates me when people want to blame a “STYLE” for the shortcomings in their performance (whether it’s combat, sports fighting, forms, etc…) instead of reflecting on what went wrong and looking for ways to fix the problem. Is the student a half assed trainee or is the instructor a mcdojo owner who either has no skills or just wants to give crappy instructions for an outrageous amount of cash.
A majority amount of the martial arts have been around for centuries for a good reason: They have been used effectively at one time or another.
Remember, if you train for sports don’t try that on the streets, if you train for combat make sure you know how to back up your actions in court.
If I missed anything please elaborate. Until then train hard & train smart.
What? if someone trains for “sports” in MMA for example and he is actually pretty good, he is useless in the street? seriously u guys should stop with that shit. ill put my money on the 100 kg rugby player than on the kung fu gick. Let alone if the dude is a pro boxer or whatever the fighting sport is.
You should go spar in a good boxing gym (or a bad one), if you feel the need to kick go to a MT gym, that bullshit point sparing you kung fu guys are doing is garbage.
Been there, done that young man. Talk shit all you want. I’ve applied my skills enforcing felony warrants in many states of the US of A. If your crappy ass can’t find yourself a good teacher then that’s just tough shit for you. Either that or you’re just some “What If Monkey” that can’t handle the fact that you just plain suck.
well after i’v blown off some steam, i read Geoff Thompson’s book, where his advice for a good realistic training session is to go hard and real on your opponent, and he in turn will go hard and real on you (in every exercise). I actually agree, in the controlled environment of a drill (defense from a punch/kick) its advised to go harder than you would in a sparring match. the risk for injury is smaller, and you gain allot from implementing your technique against a real punch or kick.
The average street punk can take out any kind of fighter really. That’s what knives & guns are for. For the record, I have taken down many sports fighters. That’s not a brag, that’s a statement of facts. Go back and read Mr. Thompson’s book again, learn something other then talking shit, and come back when you can stay on topic.

I agree with “majority” And I think some of them are only still around due to economics and politics.

And through the entire book he claims all those MA suck balls! that’s why he trains in boxing and judo. With a knife let alone a gun anybody is dead, especially a kung fu master
And i don’t believe you for a second, just wanted you to know that, you didn’t take down any fighters. But if you write some of your stories i would read it most def!!
Feel free to believe whatever you please. It’s a waste of time reading stories. You’re better off coming over to my area and trying me out instead of wasting your time with this trash talk about how you’re learning from a book that martial arts is crap. If you are issuing a challenge let me know and I will email you an address.
If only there were some way to find a bunch of Bullshido forum members… perhaps somewhere in or about 614 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge MA, on 3NOV11, about 11am or so.

sigh sites been around for 9 years and people still speak and think this way.
It’s like people still believing the world is flat. They cling to outdated and irrelevant personal anecdotes, and ignore simple reality.
You train with contact and resistance in a live environment, you develop skill and finesse. If you stand around pretending for an hour a week, kicking bags, doing kata, and hammer fisting BOB dummies in imaginary crotches, your training amounts to an imaginative 6year old who thinks he’s batman.

I’m sure you live a hell of a lot closer than you claim. So now that you have the info put up or shut up and get back on topic
I’m actually flattered, lol i really do train there. And i dont need a book to tell me that all this hipe from traditional MA is just that, a hipe, every now and again a disillusion guy comes and trains with us in our lowly simple sport. Fact of the matter, there is a lot of money in MMA and K1 and boxing… if u guys are so lethal with your superior technique, why o why don’t we see a kung fo dude making millions as the champ? why sont we see existing boxers train in traditional MA? performing classic MA technique to destroy and win? its allowed to hit pressure points in MMA…why don’t we see GSP paralyzing people while on top?
