Genki Sudo beating the shit outta Royce "BBJ" Gracie-looks like groundfighting fails

You’re banned. Why?

Because you got the pple wrong! (Thats not Royce)

You are ignorant that Genki Sudo is a BJJ Brown Belt.

It will be interesting to see how the next generation of Gracies do in MMA.
Royler et al are too old and have been passed by, skill-wise and athletically.

If MMA continues to blow up, the Gracies may not have the genes to stay up top. Just because your grandaddy pioneered a sport doesn’t mean you can be a top-level pro at it … James Naismith’s offspring aren’t dominating the NBA.

In principle sure. However on many are still going to be getting some of the best training around and if they crosstrain and become actual mixed martial artists, the early advantage they’ve got based on starting at a young age may count for a lot.

Also, there are so many damn gracies I’m pretty sure their population has enough variability to pop out a few really good athletes.

And I really hate the “BBJ” thing.
Why do so many people make that mistake?

Because retards stutter the first letter.

I don’t doubt that the Gracies will still be producing tough guys, but if MMA were to become a truly big pro sport–on a par with boxing or basketball, say–I don’t know that even the advantages of top-level early training would be enough to keep them spitting out champions. If your dad is a college baseball coach, you probably grow up with a bat in your hand–but if you don’t inherit reflexes & eye-hand coordination in the top 1% of the population, you’re not gonna play for the Yankees, period.

Greetings.

I take it you are the leading researcher in all fields relating to genetics and how genetics impact pro sports?

Greetings. I take it you’re a dick.

Are you implying that a person’s native physical attributes don’t play a massive role in defining his athletic ceiling, or that such attributes are not heavily determined by inheritance?

I’m really getting tired of the OP. In a very short time he’s shown himself to be a rampaging dumbass.

You can’t form that kind of conclusion based on one fight. Besides it takes alot of skill (and knowledge of BJJ) to handle an opponent that knows that kind of shit. I am a Muay Thai guy, I wish BJJ were not effective, but it is.

Ouch, hardcore banned-ism! Took all of two minutes too, wouldn’t want to be in a shootout with that man.

As for the Gracies being able to, it all depends on them. As soon as they finally get it through their head that they have to crosstrain(not all of them, a good chuck of the ones fighting) which means focusing on your standup just as much if not more then your BJJ then they will be ok. Also the fact that because they have the Gracie name, they can pick and choose fights for good pay instead of working their way up from smaller compitition to larger compitition. In todays MMA world, you can’t just jump in the ring with a Grade A fighter if you are a Grade C fighter(even if you BJJ alone is Grade A, this isn’t BJJ). It makes also makes a difference if you only have about 4 fights(Crosley Gracie) in the past 3 years and your opponent has 11 in the same time period(Melvin Manhoef). Although Gracie did take the fight on short notice so I will give him credit were it’s due.

NOTE As far as I know of there were no extenuating circumstances as to why Crosley Gracie only had 4 fights in a 3 year period. If there are then they should be taken into account. This is just a small example I could find real quick that I knew of off the top of my head.

You can’t jump right into premire events from bjj?
Pe De Pano says you’re wrong.

Not that my one example really means much.

Good point, bad example. Some can some can’t, unfortunately, Pe De Pano beat up a crappy Frank Mir, a guy(Keigo Kunihara) most would consider B level, and had the smack down put on him by Jeff Monson. However, I will reserve full judgement until after a few years and a few more fights to see if he is the real deal or another couldabeen.

You got there before I could. But I understand what you are saying. Some people can jump into it, some can’t. Hey does this officially mean we have hijacked this thread from the original poster or do we need to deviate further off course?

I dunno. I love Genki though.
