Forum detritus #493

Hey,

Thanksgiving is a US holiday.

This site is international.

Got anything for ‘over fifty’?

Supporting membership for one year is $20 USD. Business goes up to $300 US / year.

Who are you?

As a getting near 40, I find that strength and conditioning training become more important each year, but I dont need some dodgy looking website to tell me that.

Steve, it is a dodgy looking webpage though, as it uses the same layout as countless other websites on the internet which are usually selling something crap.

My suggestion is that you pay someone (or ask someone you know) to design a decent website for you and remove the review/testimonials as no matter how good your content if you look like you are selling snake oil that is what people will accuse you of.

Steve,

My apologies for the tone and content of my post.

I had earlier finished writing a letter to be read at the memorial service of my best friend and was well into my cups. Clicked on your link and it seemed to be just another site trying to get free advertising. As ty5 posts, your site does need work.

My bad for making an ass of myself, again.

Hi Steve,
As a guy in his late 30’s who loves BJJ but has picked up some injuries I will be checking this out. Re your link though, a couple of small changes would improve it. I’d update the header with a professional graphic, add shaded borders to each side and change the font to something slightly heavier. I would also increase the size of the welcome video and drop it to the center of the page and add a lead capture window when someone surfs away from the page. If you want to improve your site in general I would recommend you go over to warriorforum.com and ask for advice/review (it’s purely an internet marketing forum, no MA despite the name). You may find the BJJ crowd in general needs a different approach to the standard IM squeeze page formula.
Good luck with it

Oh hell I thought it was a free site. I’m not gonna pay to have someone tell me I’m old I already know this. All you can do OS train as hard as your body will allow. I’m too old to have delusions

Actually I think that a lot of these statements are very relative JNP. But that’s my opinion.

The criticism regarding his website might be relevant, but AdGrap is hardly the place for such matters in my opinion. I thought about this for a few days before I removed their posts.

Hopefully that was enough time for Mr. Whittier to see these posts and decide for himself whether to effect any changes to his website that he feels might be necessary.

Crits taken, didn’t realise this thread was in the Advanced Grappling forum, just clicked through from the latest posts. Will look more closely at the root forum next time.

Well the reason I immediately quit was because I didn’t want to be sold on anything. The comment was said earlier and I didn’t think it was necessary to state it. I read an entire wall of text before getting to the part of actually discussing possible techniques. At that point I felt like I was being sold on Amway.

I would’ve preferred to be given a small sample, be able to nod my head in agreement or disagreement and explore a bit more. Maybe I have too much of an ego, I don’t know. I have a lot of students over the age of 35 and I’m getting older students all the time.

I understand the distaste as it relates to that kind of marketing, its been used to sell a lot of b.s. in the past.

That said, Steve’s material is awesome. And though many find the marketing in bad taste, empirically it works. He brought in a large number of new subscribers, and was able to get his message out to a substantial number of people.

I wouldn’t know; I wasn’t given anything to see if it was useable. I felt that I was being sold on something. I decided to leave. In my experience action speaks louder than words, the more a person talks the less I believe. I was not given anything of substance so I left; I didn’t need to see over a hundred words on how exciting this information was going to be; I signed up for the email to get some information immediately.

See, this is why people think you encourage them to teach in your class. You actually nod in disagreement, they think you’re fine with it.

Don’t mind me, I get my jokes from really strange places.
