I taught high school for five years out of college. When you’re 22 and your students are 18 (sometimes 19-20 and still juniors, but let’s not get into that!), you learn to kill off certain parts of your brain in order to survive.

It’s pretty bad, but that’s a non-issue compared to other things I could tell you that would make your toes curl.

In an ideal world, I don’t think anyone should be licensed to teach until, say, 30, as they ought to go out and get some life experience first. Of course most of them would wind up in higher paying jobs by that time and there would be no teachers.
