Cops say a would-be kidnapper chased a woman -- into a karate studio.

A man tries to kidnap a woman by forcing her into his car, in north Charlotte. She breaks free, and runs into a nearby karate studio pleading for help.

You can already see how this ends: with the suspect being carried out on a stretcher after a fight with a karate head instructor.

The incident happened at 9 pm Thursday outside Bushiken Karate Charlotte Dojo, according to CNN affiliate WSOC and the head instructor, Randall Ephraim.

Ephraim told CNN he was straightening up the dojo, the karate studio, when the woman rushed inside:

“There were still some kids in the dojo being picked up by parents and a couple of adult students cleaning up when a young lady came through our doors and stated that someone was trying to harm her,” he told CNN.

“Shortly afterward, a big male entered the building,” he said. “Not knowing what he wanted, I assumed he was inquiring about classes.”
“I asked how I could assist him and he stated that he was there for the lady. She insisted that she did not know him and tried to kidnap her.”

Ephraim said he asked the man to leave, but he stated he was not going anywhere. “He then tried to force himself further into the dojo, aggressively pushing and swinging,” the instructor said.

“I then went into action defending myself and got him out of the dojo. Once outside he attempted to attack again and was dealt with accordingly.”
The suspect also tried to assault police officers before he was arrested, WSOC reports.

He was taken to the hospital with injuries. There’s no word on his condition at this point.

I JUST came here to see if anyone had posted about this. It has such bullshido je ne sais quoi about it that I had a hard time believing it was true. This was EXACTLY the kind of lore the cultists at West Wind would tell ("our white belts beat up their black belts type stories). But, according to CNN and WSOC, it’s true. WSOC has a picture of the attacker and dude looks big! https://www.wsoctv.com/news/local/karate-instructor-assaulted-after-man-tries-to-force-woman-into-car-police-say/898822729

I’m curious if there is a prior relationship involved between the accused and the victim. Deranged as he may be, I think it’s a stretch that some sort of serial villain or random attacker would chase a target “into the light.” That smacks of personal familiarity.

Possibly. I’m an old dog at fifty, but in my younger years had the misfortune of of being attacked by a stranger on drugs in a public parking lot during the day with people around (people who, I might add, didn’t step in to help.) That was a long time ago (my teen years) and people “didn’t like to get involved” then (now, I guess they mostly just film things, too). But I’ve also been followed to the point of running into the nearest open establishment when walking home from the BART station late one night (it was a bodega type grocery store and I asked if I could hide behind the counter; the manager called the police and told the guy that when he came in and he left). Someone who was high or unafraid of the consequences (or perhaps armed, trained in MA, the military or prison fighting) might not have backed down.

The woman stated she did not know the man and he was arrested by police on scene. If the witnesses chose to believe this man that he knew her (despite her arriving first and saying an unknown man was chasing her), they may have hesitated to get physically involved with this large, aggressive man. But, the truth is, most women have experienced a full spectrum of harassment, battery and even assault from complete strangers because the men thought they could get away with it, had often gotten away with it, and knew the benefit of the doubt would always go to them if they bullied their way through it. So I guess I don’t have any problem believing that a man chased an unknown woman into an establishment, realized it was an MA studio but mostly just scared kids and their parents, and pushed it. And then he pushed it with the wrong person, the black belt instructor, which is a happy ending in my book!

My two cents…

In B4 HM makes a post about Dan Severn.

It actually doesn’t surprise me at all that someone would do this. The full moon has been out on crazy lately. I hope that instructor beat the fucking living hell out of him.
