Cigars: Bienvenidos a Cuba!

By way of London:

This obnoxious PSA brought to you by the Brittish State Ministry of Funny Labels:

I lit up one of these puppies last night. It was a solid hour’s worth of a smoke, which sucked because we got to the bar at 12 and it closed at 1. So I ended up rushing it, and at the end even turned a bit green. But holy jesus was this a great cigar. Not the best I’ve ever smoked, but still; excellent construction and smooth draw.

A bit of trivia: this Cuban R&J is the first cigar I ever smoked, about 11 years ago when I was stationed in Panama. And I did nearly puke then. I had to sit down because it knocked me on my ass, hard.

Simply a wonderfull fucking cigar. And now that we have a forum for this kind of stuff, who else shares an affection for this pursuit?

Yeah, we have those warning labels on all our tobacco products.

I view the warning labels like flavours, I tend to pick the “Smoking when pregnant may harm your baby” ones because I’m not, pregnant that is.

The amusing stickers to put over them are also cool.

Have you ever had the Guantanamerias? Now that is one of the best Cubans I’ve ever had. Of course my favorite cigar is still the Gurka Legend. Very spicy, very smooth.

If I ever go to Cuba (seeing as we Canadians actually CAN, and I would like to) I’ll pick you up a box.

OMG why u hate freedom?

Anyway, I don’t think it’ll be a problem too much longer unless Fidel wills Cuba over to Hugo Chavez.

I almost don’t want the Cuban market to open up, because for a few years after industry returns to the island, the cigars will be extremely shitty and overproduced.

I’ve never tried the Ghurka. I’m a fan of Carlos Torano, Cohibas, and even some flavored cigars (not a snob like some folks when it comes to them).

I used to allow myself two cigars a week, but I found myself fiending for them so much that I quit. Tobacco addiction scares me.

Is it only americans who can’t buy cubans?

I wouldn’t worry too much about that, because the most likely situation is, actually, all the way around.

The Toranos aren’t bad. Honestly I don’t really like most cuban cigars, I think that they’re overrated and put on a pedestal because of the embargo.
Due to my time in the army I’ve spent a lot of time in central and south america (that and growing up near the canadian border) where you can buy cigars from anywhere . The best cigars I’ve ever had have all been Dominican.

Punch is an underrated brand (or so it was where I’ve lived). I’ve always enjoyed them.

Anyway, I don’t think it’ll be a problem too much longer unless Fidel wills Cuba over to Hugo Chavez.

You think he won’t? Their economies are intertwined now. You gave up. Threadjacking complete, return to your regularly scheduled tobacco snobbery.

When I was in Key West and worked for a Strip Club A couple smugglers hooked me up with the best Cubanos Ive ever smoked. Pretty much the production has already increased to the point qaulity control is way down compared to the early ninties. Its very unfortunate but the tobacco still rocks. The US is the only place where its hard to get the things, Here in Thailand A lady went to Cuba and now distributes all the Cubanos in country and has a few uperscale cigar shops, The girls working at them are stunning and they have some nice smoke in the humidor. You can get the tube cigars at the 24 hour grocery “Foodland” in Bangkok for 250 Baht and up.

My first box of cigars was Partagas and was a gift from a friend who smuggled them, most of my Key West friends were some version of a modern pirate, A few were extremely dangerous minded. Me Col. Bob and Doc Deb had a real night on the town and it started with each of us burning one of those Partagas cigars.

My favorite duck hunting cigar is a Padron 2000, They are A box pressed kind of rubusto. You can get them by mail from Miami or at least you could, Ive been gone since 2000 from Conus so Im guess Im not sure what people do there anymore. Anyway the best Cigar I ever smoke was a Padron Anneversario, box pressed with a maduro wrapper.

Now days I have a Hookah Turkish Water Pipe and smoke Apple and Mint flavoured tobacco when I have friends over. Things change over time but I enjoy a good box pressed cigar a few times a year, It reminds me of my old life, The one Im so far away from now.

If you like Cigars you should check out Padron.

I take it you haven’t seen the even more obnoxious labels from Aus?

RJ no 2 was also the first cuban I ever tried. I think they’re around here $14-16AU now. I generally go for h upmann coronas majors, they’re pretty mild though.

…you mean, besides Rico in the bathroom stall?

amusing!

My friends girlfriend went to Cuba. (Canadians pwnz0r j00)

She brought back some Romeo Y Julieta cigarillios. Very Nice.

my uncle once gave me a pack of RJ cigarillios he had purchased in london, for like 22 quid! considering much of the expence in the manufacture of cigars is in the rolling, and small cigars don’t require much skill, thats very expensive! Nice though, but surely such money could be spent on something with a little more ring gauge!

Cohibas are bullshit made for castro. Monte Cristo # 5’s are the bomb.
