One time at an open mat, when I first joined Bullshido,
I was sitting next to Ben chatting the breeze.
And I asked Ben about Rayce, since they were in a podium picture together.
Ben replied, “He’s legit. He also has got fucking strong grips.”
Ben is a No Gi iBJJF world champion, I believe.
So, he is qualified to make an opinion.

I am an acquaintance of a student of Marcelo Garcia’s who went on to competition success and opened her own school.
She is a very good Marcelo Garcia black belt.
Marcelo Garcia was a student and remains a fan of The General Fabio Gurgel.
Fabio Gurgel’s teacher was Jacare.
Jacare, in turn, was a student and one of the last black belts of the great Rolls Gracie before he (Rolls) died in the hang gliding accident.
Now, Sergio Penha was a contemporary of Jacare.
And, he was the first Gracie hunters of Helio Gracie’s sons.
He was also the Jiu-Jitsu coach of the great Sakuraba.
And he tied my limbs up in knots for several years, at will.
He also made a point to call me on my hospital bed, while I was going through Chemo, from ringside at the UFC, while I was watching him on television do so.
Just to cheer me up.
I found out, years and years later, talking to other students of his that had cancer, that this was a regular thing with him.
His son was shot during a mass shooting as a police officer, and continued to do his duty while wounded, and received a medal for it.
He is one of the best people that I know.

My best stitch work, I’ve had enough for a small quilt, was from a Navy corpsman. Friend who promised me he’d do better than the Naval doctors.
