I don’t think we had this story reported, before.
Terry Thompson gets 99 years to life for an RNC that he held for 3.5 minutes after dude tapped out. Bonus: video, and jury watched the entire 3.5 minutes in silence.

That was basically inexcusable behavior, and a good example of a dude unnecessarily stepping into a situation which did not need intervention other than to call the cops.
Yeah, 3.5 minutes of someone being choked out, is a long time. I’m sure that made a big impact. Good move on the prosecutors for playing that.
Two guys get into a fight in the parking lot and one of them dies. That’s the way it goes. Guys let anger get the best of them and the next thing you know there’s a fresh dead body and another guy in jail.
I think 99 to life was a little overboard. Don’t we have a congressman that bodyslammed a guy which, as I understand it, is felony assault. If he doesn’t have priors and he didn’t have sufficient training then it’s reasonable to believe that Thompson didn’t understand enough to know that the choke was in and that the other guy was at risk of serious injury.
Moral of the story is don’t get into fights in parking lots and don’t choke people unless you know what you’re doing, I guess.

Yeah, only they reported that he had trained and competed in MMA. They also filed a civil suit against him because of his training and the fact that he knew what the consequences of what he was doing would be.

Well shit. I guess he had this coming. Dumb bastard. Did he just think he was going to kill a guy for Saturday night fun and call it a night?

You know, I don’t know exactly what he was thinking but I do know this: One of the first times I used skills that I had been training in, in real life, I definitely had a feeling of power. When you train day in and day out, under sparring rules or competition rules, and then get the go ahead to inflict damage without rules, in the back of your mind you have this little devil saying, this is your chance to see what you can do. But then rational thought takes hold and you don’t do it. At least that how I’ve felt before. My guess is it was something like that, combined with adrenaline, and probably anger management issues.
Unless his crying in court was an act, I think that now that his anger and adrenaline has worn off, he fully realizes the scope of his mistake. When he doesn’t see his wife again, it will fully set in.
3.5 minutes?? Jesus christ you don’t have to be a MMA fighter to know that’s overkill. If you’re turning your opponent corpse purple it’s time to stop the RNC. I think 99 years is too light a sentence for that shit.
