If someone was to use a lock on the street like an armbar or americana and ended up breaking the opponents arm or shoulder what would be the legal penalties to that assuming that the person who used the lock did it in self defense. I live in canada so the laws might be different depending on the country. Anybody living in Canada know the answer to this this question?
if you don’t live in canada feel free to post an answer as well.
It’s always good to yell things like “Sir please calm down” when you’re breaking someones arm. That way witnesses can attest to the fact that you were trying to calm the guy down.
OK, just for laughs, I’ll treat it like an honest question. As I tell students.
The idea of restraining or “come along” holds is a flawed one. In truth they are submission holds, where pressure is applied until your opponent submits. Problem is, the guy you are fighting likely did not go to your school, and doesn’t know to tap. As such, you will break the arm/wrist and that will be seen as “excessive force” unless you can show you were dealing with an opponent who could injure you.
This also applies to any choke to the front of the neck, far more grave is that a resisting opponent will not submit, break his windpipe, and die. Now you are in BIG trouble.
Its why all those years ago I created the 4 rules; to prevent you snapping someones arm over a bad lane change.
(To the OP)
Follow up question:
If you actually knew anything about arm locks, would you post these kinds of questions? (Except if you were from Canada)
