Are online dojos legit?

First and foremost, I apologize if this is a noob question. Yes, I did use the search function.

I’m considering learning bujinkan ninjitsu, systema spetznaz or krav maga via online training courses. Are these legit? Is there anything to really be learned in the absence of a training partner? Or are they just poorly-taught scams?

Also, please keep the discussion about whether any of those individual arts are BS to a minimum… I know there’s a lot of question about bujinkan, but I already know that so I’m more interested in whether learning any of them via online classes is worthwhile.

Thanks!

Thread move in 3,2,1…

MABS ---------------> Trollshido.

I am not going to put this garbage in YMAS.

People say there are no stupid questions but low and behold, humanity finally created one.

No you didn’t and if you did you didn’t read anything.

Complete fantasy.

So you know it is shite but would like to train the shite in the worst possible way to learn anything?

I will leave you with that question. You’re welcome.

That wasn’t even a good trolling attempt.

If it wasn’t such an obvious troll job, I would say that it is entirely possible that he used the search function and came up dry. The search function doesn’t function.

When in doubt change up your search terms and/or use google.

If he was using “dojo” to look up info on “systema spetznaz” I am sure he was having issues.

One would hope he would use “online training” since he uses that phrase in his own post. That does indeed bring up plenty of discussions here on Bullshido from google and our sad search function.

protip: you can use google to search specific sites and only those sites.

I search Systema Spetsnaz… I get a lot of stuff with systema of various sorts, top result being the McMafia series.
I punch in Vadim Starov, and my first result is the White Crane Kung Fu thread, and still nothing about his brand of Systema(i.e. Systema Spetsnaz) in the first two pages.

It is kind of sad that if I use google, I have better results of finding bullshido threads, then using bullshido’s own search function.

Spring break.

Online training in any of those styles will probably make you as good at fighting as training in one of those styles in person. But that’s not a good thing.

There some perfectly legit online Dojo’s that you can purchase an online course from. Bullshido showcased one a while back from the MFMA.

https://www.bullshido.net/forums/showthread.php?t=122097&highlight=thomas+daw

Please have a look at the thread (it is a bit lengthy but will give you everything you need to know). The grand Master who runs it is a good friend of some of our senior posters (such as Mor Sau)

What are you learning them for? What’s your goal? If you’re learning for any sense of self defence then all those styles are worthless and trying to learn any style worth while online rather than going into a real legitimate gym is going to be near on worthless.

You can learn stuff online (I do from time to time) but you need the prime mechanics down first and I can’t see that being easy or even achievable without having a legit coach to correct the subtleties of your form.

If you’re just learning for the fun of things and to emulate the beauty of the styles or whatever then I can’t really see any fault in wanting to learn online.

Just looked at dates and realised how old this is.

I am considering taking online lessons when I get a drum set. I read that some can be helpful, some are free, but others can be expensive and not very helpful. I heard of people being taught on Youtube, through Skype, and so on.

Are online lessons worth it or is it best to get lessons in person?

Online lessons are the way to go. Why wait to get a drum set? Use some saucepans and wooden spoons!

OP’s question was a missed opportunity. It is a valid question in this online age.

I would have asked him why he would choose the online option first (boy in a bubble, remote region, health issue, financial, etc).

Dr Gonzo - could the future possibly hold personal robotic MA instructors (fine, that also double as sex robots)?

Surely. Chi is optional.

Online instruction is only good when you are already in a dojo/club, have enough training to comprehend what you are seeing, and have training partners to work out the kinks with.

Learning from a video at home because you are too cheap, too shy or lack enough confidence to join a club doesn’t work.
