To me, it’s a relatively high risk, high reward technique that works best for tall/long legged people. Practically you could also use it on an attacker’s feet. That’s a bad day for them if you hit.

I was referring more to the training methods. Taekwondo practitioners, for the most part, don’t learn to chain together these kinds of powerful kicks in practical combinations.

Seriously, though, has the ax kick been used much in competitions that include full grappling?

Not really. But not many karate men in the grappling scene either.
