A MABS thread on CG is a brilliant place for this.

I’ve been watching this thread for a while, and just recently moved to the Omaha/CB area. When I get done watching these flys fuck, I may check out what he has going on. Oh no wait! I’m gonna check out MidAmerica MA instead, much better use of my valuable time.

Checked out their website at www.midamericama.com. The thing I really get a chance to enjoy, at least when the opportunity arises, is the benefit of “depth of experience.” Looking over the list of instructors, many of them look quite reputable. Others I have knowledge of their background, their history, as well as the history surrounding their instructorship or residence in Omaha…

For example, Kurt Podany opened the very first BJJ class in Omaha back in the early '90s. He was active, as were his students (and, IIRC, one of our black belts went over to his gym because she wanted to fight full contact), in the local (can’t say beyond that - didn’t care enough at the time to look into their “outside Omaha” activity) kickboxing scene.

The “Tai Jitsu Academy” was a group of students of Robert Bussey (you remember, the “King of Combat?”) who broke away due to personal drama in Bussey’s RBWI inner circle.

Lastly, they don’t seem to want to put their actual tuition rates on the 'net. They talk about their programs and contracts, but say you have to call for pricing… I guess I’m just after full disclosure. It doesn’t mean a thing, really, but it struck me odd that they’d gone to such lengths to outline their contracts, but not a peep about an actual hard price… Whatever.

Now, having said that, I have to say that if someone wanted to pursue non-traditional training with a focus on MMA-type work, this would be about the best Omaha has to offer. That having been said, there are some quality TMA folks in the Midwest, the trick is tracking them down. But if you’re after MMA training, this looks like a good deal overall.
