The nitty-gritty:

The Bullshido Forums are and have always been for full-contact sparring with ideas

We understand that this may be jarring to some people, and acknowledge that at times it can even be counterproductive that we allow actually open discussion on all sorts of contentious topics; especially when that is not the case virtually anywhere else (despite many marketing slogans professing otherwise).

However, while this may very well be the case in individual discussions, in the aggregate, as we have seen for 20 years now, this approach yields the best results when it comes to both shining a spotlight on the truth of the matters at hand, and on the vermin hiding in the dark crevices who all-too-often rely on false decorum and propriety as a means of obfuscating their bullshit.

With that said, we do have some…

Basic Guidelines

It should go without saying that we do not tolerate illegal content, content that is (by reasonable judgment) considered “Not Safe For Work” such as nudity or gore, sexual or other forms of harassment, and threats of violence that are not within the context of martial arts demonstration.

We establish these guidelines as social norms so that we don’t have to create hard rules. The intent is to have as unfettered discussion as is possible given the fact that there will always be someone trying to push the boundaries

Agreeableness is not required, but don’t be a dick

Feel free to disagree enthusiastically and often. That’s what we’re here for. While in the course of your disagreements you may encounter any of the following:

  • Name-calling / Ad hominem attacks, including hilarious ones
  • Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content by someone offended by the above
  • Knee-jerk contradictions, missing the point deliberately or inadvertently
  • Creative forms of stupidity which you never expected.

Don’t let that slow you down at all, it’s par for the course when there aren’t nannies or cops hovering over any group of people, judging them on their behavior. You will, however, be judged on the coherence and other merits of your arguments and the supporting evidence you provide for them.

Participation

The conversations we have here set the tone for every new arrival. Help us influence the future of this community by choosing to engage in discussions that make this forum an interesting place to be — and avoiding those that do not.

If there’s a thread already on the subject, consider replying to that one just to keep things tidy instead of creating a new thread.

Shitposting and memes are perfectly fine except when it’s clear such behavior is intended to derail productive discussion. Keep in mind you reveal your personal character with every character you type.
