[I]April 12, 2006 ㅡ An official of the World Taekwondo Federation and five others were detained yesterday by Seocho district police in Seoul and charged with issuing referee licenses to unqualified persons. A total of 31 persons who allegedly received those licenses were also charged.
A police investigation revealed that officials had falsified documents to allow unqualified persons to take referee qualification tests, and took money to issue referee licenses to people who did not take the test.
Kang Seok-jae, an official at the federation, said yesterday that an internal investigation launched at the beginning of 2006 as part of reform measures had just finished and they were in the process of deciding on penalties for implicated officials when the police took action.[/I]
